   They are not currently using the open table system at the restaurant. They had no record of our reservation and the hostess said they had not used the ipads (open table system) for a while now. There was no wait for a table for 8 at 6pm, that should have set off alarms but I trusted the La Fonda name. The waiter was average, if not a bit slow. Drink (bar) service was slow, so slow that our apps arrived well before our drinks. App portions were small. The main course was average. Nothing great, nothing awful. All in with tip, it was $160 for 8 people with minimal alcohol. We left disappointed.

   Having seen mediocre reviews, we went preparing to rave, because, after all, this is the successor to La Fonda Oak Hills, where we dined for decades. We left with mixed feelings. On arrival, we had to hunt for the host (he was in the kitchen) to be seated. On advising the host that I had made reservations through Open Table, he immediately dissed Open Table and said they are getting rid of it because it is unreliable. I do not believe that is information that should be shared with customers, and had he worked for me, I would have fired him on the spot. There was a good crowd dining. It was apparent that they were short handed, and our waitperson admitted two had called in. Those remaining ran their tails off and I must compliment them for hard work. The menu was the same as the Oak Hills spot, though the food was not. It was good, and I take into account that I am relying on fond memory of Oak Hills. I think the chili was a bit thin, but over all, I give it pretty high marks. This is a big restaurant and will need good crowds to make it fly. I did speak with one of the management before leaving and he agreed that some effort was needed and that they were working on it. Bottom line is that we will return and recommend it, because it is a treasure for San Antonio if they can meet the standards of the previous owner.

   They didn’t use open table anymore so we had to wait an hour in order to get a table and ended up leaving.

   Food was delicious! Our server, Ariel was outstanding. We will be back. The owners do need to address the ceiling / acoustics in the main dining room...there was a large table (10) that was so loud we had to yell to hear each other at our small table across the room.

   The food was good and the happy hour prices were great. The best part of the evening was the service we received from our fabulous waiter, Santos!

   This was my first time here and the staff and food was great. I thought the portions were perfect size and the staff was very accommodating and helpful in explaining the menu choices. I liked that the menu did not have a zillion items on it, it was simple and easy to figure out what to order. Good solid Tex-mex. Top shelf margarita was REALLY yummy!

   Like many, I was excited when La Fonda Oakhills reopened at the Rim. Unfortunately, this location failed to deliver. Although the service was attentive and engaging, the food left much to be desired. It didn’t help that I felt a little sick hours after eating there. With all the great Tex mex joints in SA, this place really needs to step up its game. It also didn’t help that there was a family there with a baby that shrieked almost the entire time we were there. :( Eh. I probably won’t be back.

    Let me point out that my grades of “poor”, on every category, is only a reflection of the fact that La Fonda was closed at the time of our reservation. I don’t know where the fault lies. Whether it be Open Table or La Fonda, this was extremely disappointing. Being an Easter afternoon, we knew that finding a restaurant may present a challenge. We foolishly depended on Open Table and a guarantee that we would have a place to have dinner. Yes, I may use Open Table in the future, but I will also personally verify any reservation with the restaurant.
