Come dine in this beautifully restored Uptown restaurant on Magazine Street and enjoy James Beard Award Winning Chef Justin Devillier's contemporary Louisiana Cuisine.

The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans. Reservations are preferred.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Joseph Tiedmann

From the OpenTable editors: Head to this charming restaurant inside a historic building for exceptional New Orleans staples from James Beard Award-winning chef Justin Devillier. That means you'll find some of the best blue crab beignets in town and a rich turtle bolognese with a soft-boiled egg, both of which pair well with classic cocktails like an old fashioned. Brunch is a highlight here, too—an order of the creamy buttermilk biscuits and gravy is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Probably the single best food experience I've ever had in NOLA. Bobby Margot is an absolute magician at running this restaurant the restaurant business is definitely his calling. Our waitress was AMAZING, so sorry I forgot her name. But she was GREAT. Will def be back 100%

The food was solid, but not sure if it's worth the price. Appetizers were the stars of the show.

Everything was delightful. I am so pleased I was finally able to dine there. The hardest part of the experience was making a selection of the exceptional menu. The crab beignets were remarkable and the beef short ribs over goat cheese polenta, sublime.

The name "La Petite" makes it sound like a quaint, charming, little restaurant. In fact, it is a bustling, fairly standard looking place, there was no real ambience. Everything was fine, but we felt rushed and sort of chilly. Like "here's your food, now get on with it." The food came very quickly and was just placed in front of us somewhat brusquely, no "enjoy" or such. The crab beignets were delicious, and are the main reason for a visit, though I wish our waitperson had mentioned they come 3 to an order. The tortoise bolognese was also very good, as was the rabbit. There was just something quite off-putting by the entire waitstaff and overall lack of charm to the place. (Perhaps they are not well-treated?) We were in and out of there in about 75 minutes, not quite the leisurely dinner we were anticipating. As a NYC resident, I'm accustomed to restaurants that tell you there's a time limit, 90 minutes being the average, and I appreciate a restaurant's need to turn the tables over as quickly as possible. There were plenty of open tables at La Petite Grocery, and no line at the door. We will not be back.

We had a wondergul experience. The place looks local with a french vintage atmosphere. The price is a bit high for the rations, but I think the food deserves it. Everygthing we ordered was perfectly cooked and every little detail in the recepeices made the difference, it was all delicious. They have also a large menu for wines, bourbouns, whiskeys and other drinks. We were celebrating my wife birthday, and the waitress and the staff were very nice with us, we'll repeat for sure.
