About this restaurant

A letter from the founder,

From the time I can remember, while I was growing up in this Italian neighborhood, the North End of Boston, my grandmother, Crocefissa Barbara Summa, was a great influence in my life.
It was at her dinner table that I learned of friendship and love, and by her side I discovered the art of Italian cooking. I learned it all begins with the best ingredients to bring out the simplicity of flavors of Sicilian cuisine as well as the many various regions throughout Italy. It pleases me that you selected to dine at La Summa. I know that your experience will be warm and pleasant, with culinary pleasures. - Barbara Summa Sullivan ( JULY 3, 1940 – SEPTEMBER 16, 2022)

It was pretty loud in the restuarant even though we had an earlier seating. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was bery good, arancini was ok (would have benefitted from some fresh mozz), while artichoke was not our cup of tea. Entrees where well portioned. Chicken Parm was very good, Lemon Chicken was good, and baked stuffed manicotti was good as well. The steak was very reasonably priced, but was a bit chewy. Wine list is limited, but had a really nice Barolo and Barbaresco (they were a major hit), and desserts were very good. Service was very good and friendly. Overall, we would go back here again.

Our tour ended early and the restaurant was able to seat our family of 6. Destiny was a fantastic waitress !! The wine selection was fantastic and we shared bruschetta and caprese for appetizers both were fresh and delicious ! I had the eggplant special and the pieces were huge and cooked perfectly! We tried Alfredo, red sauce, gnocchi, homemade fusilli - everything was outstanding ! Topped it off with dessert of cannoli, chocolate lava cake and their special Easter cheesecake special - we left with full belly’s and happy hearts !!! Highly recommend!

Booked a table here the night before the marathon and I’m glad I did after seeing the queues at other restaurants nearby. The staff were fantastic and the food was some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this place.

I would highly recommend this restaurant, for its Italian cuisine, which is outstanding. The menu choices perfect, the staff was so friendly and accommodating. If you want to be romantic with your significant other, this is the place to be. I would highly recommend this restaurant in the north end of Boston.

First visit to this wonderful family run restaurant. It was exceptionally busy because it was the 250 year anniversary of Paul Reveres ride (the Revere House is just a block away) we were able to get reservations through open table at the last minute. The food was amazing and the service superb. But the reason we will go back was the personal touch of the manager, Sharon. She and her team made us feel like family!
