Having been to Le Colonial many times at its Rush Street location, I regularly had the same experience: Great service, great food, great ambiance, but it was over-priced for what you got. In our very first time at the new Oak Street location, I'm pleased to say that it is no longer over-priced! The prices are well within reason, and actually lower than most other fine dining restaurants downtown. And the food and atmosphere are still great! But, unfortunately, the service was not. While the bus service was terrific -- very polite and arrived at timely moments -- the waiter seemed very inexperienced and perhaps not well-trained. He was very nice and he was trying, but there were a number of blunders. But our biggest objection is the service from the maitre'd stand. When we arrived, the two individuals were snarky about the fact that we arrived 15 minutes EARLIER than our reservation, explaining essentially that it was our fault that we had to wait. And then, when leaving, the same two individuals were merely chatting amongst themselves, and, in a very small area in which we had to pass within 5 feet of the maitre'd stand, we said thank you as we passed by, and they never looked over, and never said a word. If that sounds minor, perhaps you needed to be there in the entry way, which is so small that it would be awkward not to acknowledge one another. Nevertheless, great food, great ambiance and great value.

Somewhat understandably it was Christmas Eve, but our service was subpar and very slow. We ordered one drink and they brought us a different one and they insisted this was the drink we ordered. The food was great as always, but the service left something to be desired.

Very good food. Tried to have a discreet birthday dessert but staff is extremely process oriented - couldn’t handle the exception. Pricing quite inflated - $220 bill for two with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 mocktails.

My favorite restaurant in all of Chicago. Consistently fantastic. The crispy veggie egg rolls, chicken dumplings, signature fried rice, and shaking beef are musts. The cocktail program could use some TLC but the food is so good it doesn’t matter.

Came here for a small group holiday dinner with co-workers. It was perfect! Server was attentive, yet did not rush us. Every dish (and beverage) was delicious. The perfect special occasion spot.
