   Although the restaurant was 1/4 full, the service seemed rushed with little pause between courses. The ambience was not what I am used to for fine dining and was more like hotel/industrial. The food was clearly above average (8/10) but was not what I expected from a James Beard finalist chef. The wine by the glass list is very limited for a fine dining restaurant. The dining room needs to be broken up in some way to create more of a sense of intimacy and to reduce noise rather than a “dining hall” ambience. I’d love to dine there again if changes are made. Perhaps my expectations were out of line in expecting a fine dining experience.

   Cons: wagyu, pomme darphin and green beans were over salted; waygu was under cooked (medium rare instead of medium) and the prime filet was over cooked (well done as opposed to medium rare). All would have been returned but we were very hungry and pressed for time. The staff was alerted and it was handled promptly and with grace. Pros: the onion tart was delicious (we ordered a second one to go!), as well as the tuna tartare. I didn’t enjoy the chicken skin butter so it was quickly replaced with the pamplie which was yummy. The decor is elegant and beautiful and the service was very good. Overall: once the kitchen starts tasting their food and properly cooking steaks I’ll be back.

   While everything was lovely We want to see the 4% charge - which is an old Covid tax- be removed. Just price the menu properly. For such a beautiful place, let’s not get buckled and dimed. We’re happy to pay. Otherwise, fantastic all around

   Great ambiance with a very unique decor. Certain dishes we really liked, others were good (but not great). Expensive but worth a special occasion for sure. We'll be back and try some new things.

   This was our first visit to Le Coq and we were quite pleased with everything. We had a great date night. We started with the mussels and the caviar. After that we had the rack of lamb and the steak frites. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was enjoyable. The service was great. All in all a great time.

   Went there for a date night with my husband and it was a wonderful experience. The service was very attentive, everything we ate was delicious, and the environment is beautiful! Definitely will be back

   This was a wonderful dinner, great food, service and ambience. I highly recommend a stop if you are visiting La Jolla. Even a dinner in the bar area is worth making a reservation.

    The restaurant "make over and ambiance is impressive from the former Herringbone restaurant. The service was great, but the food was mediocre. The steak tartar was "good", but lacked in overall taste. Same for the lamb chops, which lacked flavor (no sauce) and were overcooked. I ordered medium rare, but it came out medium. The gnocchi pasta was just ok, with a mild sauce. The sweetbreads were good, but did not have a great French sauce, which we are used to, having lived in Europe where "ris de veau" (sweetbreads) is a signature dish in Belgium and France. They just need to bring the food quality up to a level similar to go along with the outstanding decor and ambiance!
