About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
Established in 1937, Le Veau d’Or reopens under neo-bistro extraordinaires, Chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson.

The renaissance pays homage to the incredible history of the space while bringing an elevated level of execution to the food and beverage programs.

Le Veau d'Or serves a $125 prix-fixe dinner menu Tuesday - Saturday and an $85 prix-fixe lunch menu Tuesday - Friday. We can accommodate up to four people per reservation in our main dining room. Unfortunately, we don't push tables together for larger parties, but our private dining room can host groups up to 24!

Our bar is available for walk-ins where guests can enjoy lunch, dinner, or just a drink!

Our intimate dining room means we are unable to adjust party sizes once a reservation is confirmed. Decreases in party size will be subject to a fee of $50/seat.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: The James Beard–recognized restaurateurs from Frenchette, Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, took over one of the oldest French restaurants in New York when they restored and reopened Le Veau d’Or in 2024. Take comfort in the wood-paneled walls, red leather booths, and red-and-white checkered tablecloths, and get ready for a polished prix-fixe menu of pâté en croûte, poached lobster, and île flottante, among others. Catch a nightcap at the cozy bar—it’s a tiny treasure with only five seats.

Food was good, I’m not saying it was bad to any extent, just in my opinion, subpar. Service I believe was the highlight of this experience. Extremely friendly staff and beyond helpful. Drinks and desserts were also above average, but I do feel like the starters and entrees were lacking quite a bit.

It is the platonic ideal of a French bistro. The martini, the escargots, the steak tartare are among the best I’ve ever had. Lives up to the hype and worth the hassle of logging onto OpenTable every day at 9 AM to stalk a res. One day I hope to score one for dinner!

The food and service were very good. The room was loud, even at lunch, but I had been forewarned. The lunch menu is somewhat dumbed down from the dinner menu. My only gripe is that the list of wine by the glass is barebones, which is a problem at lunch.

Superb food and excellent service. Shockingly mediocre wine list. $100 cork fee with such a list is unjustified

The staff’s passion for their restaurant, and warmth and friendliness, are unusual and unsurpassed. They made the entire lunch experience delightful. The food is terrific: the calves liver was fabulous, and everything else was excellent. The dining room is charming. Only one negative, and I hope they fix it with acoustical tiles, insulation, something: even at 1:30, when the restaurant was 2/3 empty, the noise level was deafening much of the time. That adversely impacts the entire experience.

Amazing atmosphere and food was delicious, went for lunch since it wasn’t as competitive as getting a dinner spot and it was worth it!

Just about the best meal in New York City at the moment! Everything is just right, without ever being over-sophisticated. I am so happy it exists.
