Born and raised in Kansas City Missouri, southern hospitality is on the top of our list. It’s more than tradition. It’s ice cold beer, key lime pie, and a party in our backyard. Our family wanted to turn passion into a reality in 2013, so we came together and opened Mallards. With Dad in charge of the menu all of our favorites started showing up! From Jambalaya to Tennessee Hot Chicken, our story finds itself on each and every plate!

This was our second time at Mallards. The first time was for dinner 6 days earlier. This time we went with another couple for their Sunday Brunch. We had a reservation for 10 am, which is when they open. After quickly being seated we were greeted by our waiter and his assistant. We all ordered coffee. It took quite awhile until our waiter brought my coffee only and said he was brewing a fresh pot. It seemed odd that they didn’t have coffee already made for when they first opened at 10. It took a very long time until the other 3 coffees were brought to the table. The waiter brought 3 more empty cups & the coffee in a carafe. When he tried pouring the first cup nothing came out. He started fiddling with the carafe top and finally just took it off. He wasn’t trained that he had to rotate the top so it could pour out. Later when he brought us more coffee the same thing happened. Seemed weird. Anyway, my wife & I ordered the Crunchy French Toast & the Smoked Salmon Bagel that we were going to share. The other couple ordered eggs. Again it took a rather long time to get our breakfasts and it wasn’t busy at all. My wife & I thought the Crunchy French Toast (coated with Corn Flakes) was very good. The Smoked Salmon Bagel wasn’t what we had expected. It was made more like an egg salad on the bagel except it was fresh salmon, capers, onions and cream cheese all finely chopped together. I thought it wasn’t bad just not what I expected. It did say it was chopped on the menu. My wife didn’t care for it. The barely toasted everything bagel was better than I expected. Most bagels at many restaurants aren’t that good unless it’s a Jewish Deli. One of the order of eggs that the other couple ordered was supposed to be cooked easy and it came out hard. Again it took a bit of time to get a new order. They said their egg orders were fine. We do understand that this is a new restaurant as they had just opened a week or so earlier. Overall the food was just average & the server was nice.

The food here is very good. We have the crab dip, Seabass, Jambalaya and Mediterranean Pasta and key lime pie and apple pie for dessert. Other than my pasta being over cooked, everything was great. What they definitely need to work on is the service and the timing of the plating. We had our salads delivered after our entrees, our dessert served when we were only half way through our dinners and not even close to ready for them. If they can do a better job with employee training especially on timing of a meal, this place should be very successful. Make sure your kitchen learns how long to cook pasta for. Easy mistake to fix.

This place has great potential, menu is fun and interesting, food is tasty. Our server was working hard to please, but the restaurant is still working out some overall service issues.

They are only a week or so in to being open so maybe they’re still figuring some things out. Took a while for our drinks to arrive. Food was not warm when it arrived. Service was slow but everyone was friendly.

Pleasantly surprised at the wide choices available on the menu. Booth very comfortable. Large dining area and several smaller private rooms for private parties. Wait staff very accommodating with my change requests. Food high quality and healthy portion size. I'll be going back on Tuesdays when it's half-price bottle of wine night! Overall a much needed addition to the Bayshore Mall and the east-side restaurant scene!

Mallards has great potential but still getting the kinks out as they open. The food was good, with a nice variety and some interesting combinations. Everything reasonably priced and nice size portions. Some challengies with coordinating the kitchen and timeliness of service. I think they'll be a great addition to the dining options in the area as they work through the details. Looking forward to going again!

The server was attentive however one of four meals came out about 20 minutes after ordering while the other three meals came out another 15 minutes later. This issue needs to be resolved if the restaurant is to be successful.
