Manta is the signature restaurant of the iconic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and has breathtaking views of the Kohala Coast. The menu is a curation of Pacific Rim cuisine with seasonal, local, and sustainably-produced ingredients.
Chef Bryan Nagao has gained formidable reputation in the international food community. He was once described by American media as "the most notable figures in rendering Modern Asian cuisine in the Northern hemisphere". The creativity permeating his cuisine stems from the diversity of his culinary background. Bryan's cuisine is a multi-faceted reflection of his Hawai'i Island birthplace, his Japanese ancestry, and decades spent in the finest restaurants in Hong Kong and Taipei.

This was a great way to finish off our week in Hawaii-- we had a spectacular sunset view, the service was impeccable and the food was the best we had all week. I loved the wine list and how the menu noted what was grown in the garden on the property. This is a pricy meal, but worth it for the service, the atmosphere, the food and the view.

The food was off the charts exquisite. And you can't top the location/ambiance - seaside was perfection. The only downside was our server. She took our order, then we didn't see her again until I flagged her down for the check. When our meal was delivered from the kitchen, we had no silverware to eat it with (when the salad dish/silverware were cleared, they were never replaced), so I had to get up and find someone who could give us silverware before our entree cooled off. When you pay $250 for a drink/salad/entree for 2, you would hope that your server would be attentive. But the food and ocean-view were spectacular.

The food was very overpriced for what you get and I was not impressed. The flavors were bland and seafood was overcooked. We ended up spending almost $500 and I was much happier with a meal I got at a roadside barbecue stand for $60…Save the money and go for cocktails to watch the sunset and see the manta rays from the viewing platform.

Exceptional experience from start to finish. Restaurant is in a beautiful location, interior is lovely. Staff was warm, friendly and delivered great service. Can’t wait to return! Pro tip: reserve for sunset viewing.
