About this restaurant

Marcela’s Creole Cookery provides a New Orleans cuisine many miles away in Seattle with authentic Cajun and creole born from experience obtained in New Orleans. Marcela’s Creole Cookery is the perfect place to go for Mardi Gras celebrating or anytime one is hankering for authentic creole flavors. The Marcela’s Creole Cookery lunch menu includes po-boys with all the typical meat options including alligator, catfish, andouille sausage, crawfish, shrimp and crab cakes. For a special treat, try the muffaletta po-boy, which is a New Orleans tradition. The sampler, jambalaya, gumbo and crawfish etouffee are also great choices. For dinner the Cajun trio is a good bet as well as the stuffed prawns and barbecued shrimp. Finish off the meal with bread pudding with whiskey sauce or the bananas foster prepared flambeau tableside.

Marcela's transports you from the Pacific Northwest to New Orleans. The fish and seafood is shipped from the gulf coast, as well as, their beer selection. Go here for special occasions, they usually do a free glass of champagne and will toast with you. Must orders: barbecue shrimp, crawfish ettouffee and potatoes ya-ya. Definitely recommend for lunch or dinner! Just call ahead for large parties.

Booked this restaurant mostly because they had availability a few hours before the Seahawks playoff game and we wanted to be in the Square well before gametime....what a great find! Wonderful service, great food and a great vibe overall. Pretty quiet while we were there (no TVs so no football crowd that day). The red beans and rice could have used some more kick (I think they tamed it down for us PNWers), but the andouille sausage was delicious as was the sampler (and plenty of spice there, per my husband!)

This was our first time eating at this restaurant. We had an early dinner, so it was very quiet. I'm sure it has potential for raucous and rowdy, though :) Food was fantastic, service was great, and prices reasonable. We will definitely be returning.!

I had the special gumbo, probably the best I've ever had, although I must say I'm not the gumbo affectionate that some are. Very tasty. Hubby had the catfish and it was also very tasty. Small place, they were running a cooking class in part of the restaurant, not a distraction as you get to see the owner in action. I had a glass of red wine, and they had a nice selection of wine by the glass. We will be back.

was better than the last. My family of three teenage children and an ex-wife enjoyed a wonderful meal at Marcela's. We shared bites of each other's plate and each one seemed to be better than the last no matter which plate you started on. The sauces were flavorful with a perfect consistency. The plates were attractively presented. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better we ordered the bread pudding and pecan pie. Excellent! The service was friendly and accurate. The room was a little odd but I have an odd family so we fit right in. Look forward to my next visit to Seattle so I can again visit Marcela's.

I had the French Quarter Sampler: a slice of crawfish pie, a cup of shrimp gumbo, and jambalaya, with a house salad starter. All were tasty, but none popped - except for the crawfish pie, which was delicious but clearly loaded with butter. The gumbo was a brown broth with shrimp in it, not the hearty stew I was hoping for, and the jambalaya was pretty much white rice with some sausage. Seasoned well, just not very interesting. My dinner companion had the Uptown Chicken. She loved it, but only finished half due to the amount of breading and cream in the dish. The waiter confirmed that they use enormous amounts of butter in their cooking, so be warned! The waiter was great, very personable and helpful, and the atmosphere was funky and fun.

We found Marcel's to be a fun atmosphere and the waiters enthusiasm was wonderful. The selection is very good with great specials as well. We had pecan pie for desert with was wonderful with the enormous serving of vanilla ice cream.

Great find! Small place though so make reservations. Gets full fast because the food is great and Anthony and Marcela and staff are wonderful. Hard working and food just like being in New Orleans - yummy all around! Last time we went there were several groups from New Orleans dining there. Fish spectacular. Oysters (fried) yummy. Specials amazing. Have gone 2x and great both times. Will be going back fo' sho'. Only downside - small space, but probably only way to maintain ability to provide good quality food and service.
