Discovering Italy by way of La Jolla, Marisi focuses on Italian hearth cooking with an emphasis on handmade pastas, fine wine and classic cocktails. The menu celebrates the rich diversity of cuisine from across Italy, fashioned in a time-honored tradition of handmade all day, every day. A dream that lives between the Italian and La Jolla coasts, suspended between tides instead of time — a mood more than a plot. A visit that feels a lot like coming home, if home was a warm, charming villa off the Amalfi coast. Marisi is a taste of something you want to remember. We hope you love it.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Chef Cameron Ingle

From the OpenTable editors: This dainty Italian restaurant is a La Jolla newcomer, but it’s already made an impression thanks to standout farm-to-table fare from executive chef Cameron Ingle (of Bouchon Bistro and Bestia fame). Toast with vermouth before digging into winners like einkorn cavatelli and bite-sized agnolotti.

Despite it being Valentine’s Day “a busy and chaotic day at other restaurants”, service and food was phenomenal! 10 out of 10! This place never fails to impress me. Was sat down in less than a minute and waiter Nick took our drink order within minutes. Absolutely the best service provided by Nick and May. All the details and attention were unnoticed. Compliments to the chef for the best prefixed menu I have ever seen! Bring the mussels to the menu please that broth was exquisite. Thank you for making the best Valentines dinner date I’ve ever had.

It’s not often you wake up thinking about sardines, and let alone, in a good way, but that’s how good our meal at Marisi was. Excellent pre Valentine’s Day meal. Sardines were out of this world. Ravioli excellent and service was great!

No question that the food is glorious! The restaurant is in a great location and is easy to get to. The architecture inside is beautiful and lends to the experience. I highly recommend visiting for a tasty Italian cuisine.

Beautiful restaurant with fantastic service, but the food was really disappointing. Pasta and scallops were good, but the prawns were mediocre and the giardinera was very disappointing - too salty and conflicting flavors.

A great place for Retirees with a large retirement income, in that portions were small and very pricey. Note that we went on a Monday night, however plated dishes should have been better inspected. For example, the marinaded local fish (basically ceviche) and the Carbonara pasta were both waaaay over peppered with large chunks of fresh pepper all over the food. Actually, the two dishes themselves had very good flavor undertones that were all but disguised by the preponderance of pepper. Best dish was the prawn appetizer roasted and topped with an unctuous butter sauce. The scallops were served on a 5 star puréed cauliflower base with subtle additions of olives, raisins and numerous flavorful herbs. The scallops would have been the signature dish except they didn’t sear them properly to me. Or perhaps they weren’t supposed to be seared? In any case they were almost sashimi—you could tell they were high quality, just not at the level of the accoutrements.

I've been here 3x now and not dying to go back anytime soon. Meaning, I'd go if someone else suggested it, but I prob won't book again as a personal choice. Service was great, they're amazing at keeping your water glass full and the food wait time was very short which was nice. The beet appetizer is the best item on the menu by far. Smoked beets, raspberries, goat cheese... what a combination! This is the only dish I've had that's worth returning for. Cocktails are decent (cantaloupe margarita was refreshing but lacked cantaloupe flavor) , the restaurant is esthetically pleasing, and the fresh roses on the table are a nice touch. I think the food is average, nothing spectacular. Rack of lamb was nearly $150 which I think was a bit pricy for this place. Also ordered 2 pasta dishes, one was pleasant to eat (short rib) but the other (bolognese) was quite bland and we just ended up tossing the leftovers. This place has soooo much potential, they just need to season and spice the food and drinks up.

What a beautifully perfect dining experience at Marisi. We took our daughter for her 50th birthday and were blown away by the setting, both outdoors and indoors. The menu was well appointed but not extensive. Our server was professional, thorough in his presentation and friendly. Obviously Marisi's is well thought of, because it was crowded with a moderately high noise level, from the time we arrived to the time we left. Are you waiting for the food report? Well, it was absolutely delicious. We had antipasti, a main course and dessert. The chopped salad was a meal in itself. The base was red cabbage rather than lettuce. The Parmesan was generous and the salad was delicious. The Burrata with stone fruit was different and delicious. It could almost be a dessert. The beet salad was rich and delicious. We shared the main courses, as well. The scallops were out of this world. There were only 3. But I can understand it because if we had all 3 courses, it would have been more than enough. The pappardelle bolognese was excellent and the right amount. The sauce was rich with wine and created a distinctive taste. The the Rigatoni was delicious, as well. The salted carmel dessert with mini cinammon sugared donuts was delicious. It would have been nice if the donuts were warm, but delicious anyway. Since it was our daughter's birthday, the dessert was accompanied by a sparkler. Fun presentation. We'll return again and again to enjoy the sophisticated ambiance, delicious and creative cocktails and wonderful cuisine. Next time we'll order the pizza! Thank you, Marisi, for a memorable dining experience and a Happy 50th for our daughter.
