   I love this place. Food good, mostly. But this time the dessert was not quite as hoped with a great deal of ersatz chocolate sauce on profiteroles that were supposed to be caramel, which was disappointing, but the burger and fish finger sandwich were excellent. The service was slow because of a very loud large group next to us who took priority. But we weren’t in a rush luckily. I’m looking forward to the lobster roll being back on as indicated on the website menu, but I always seem to go when it’s not ‘in season’ I am told.

   We loved our visit for a summer weekday evening dinner, sat in the garden for a drink first with the dog which was nice. The food was delicious with very generous portions. The only downside was the service (almost an 50 minutes between ordering and the first course coming out), but the service was really friendly.

   It was a busy day due to the Sandown race day. We were given a table outside the toilets with a broken chair. The team member changed the chair for one that was outside and wet through. I asked if we could have another table which was quickly sorted out but we only had the table for an hour. The food took ages to arrive, giving only 1/2 an hour left. The staff were polite and the food good when it turned up. I have been here many times before and believe these mishaps were because it was busy. This pub is usually spot on.

    Good food, friendly staff and we were given the perfect table for four of us in the small bar area which was great for us
