Review summary

Marseille offers a delightful taste of France in NYC's theater district. Guests rave about the "wonderfully soft" pain Perdue, "excellent" fish dishes, and "heavenly" onion soup. The "attentive and professional" service and vibrant ambiance make it a "go-to choice" for pre-theater dining. Don't miss the oyster happy hour!

The food and service were excellent. I thought the proximity to Times Square meant it was a tourist trap but it is genuine French food. Recommended!

Had not been back to Marseille in many years and was looking forward to, what I remembered, as a wonderful meal. Unfortunately, one of what I believe to be their signature dishes, the mussels, which I've enjoyed many times in the past, arrived with "grit" in almost every one of the 6 or 7 mussels my wife tried to eat before throwing in the towel and giving up. We quickly brought it to the attention of our waitress, who was very nice and offered to bring something else, which my wife declined. What surprised me was that no one came by to apologize for the quality of the food that was served (I would have expected a Manager or someone to come by). Also, even though my wife was very polite about the mussels, our waitress passed us off to another waiter shortly after we returned the dish, which we also found very strange. My escargot and gem salad was excellent, as was my daughter's short rib and pasta entre. It was just unfortunate that the mussels had not been prepped thoroughly.

Terrific, light pre-theatre meal. Goat cheese/beet salad and the frisé/lardons salad. Both yummy. Good selection of wines by the glass. Great service. Friendly, busy atmosphere. A happy experience.

We had a lovely pre-theater dinner. The food was excellent and the service friendly. We enjoyed delicious mussels and the branzino, which was very nicely prepared. Look forward to to going back !

I think there's something to be said about how a restaurant treats solo diners. I was surprised to find that, despite having booked some time in advance, I was seated at a table in the bar area next to the kitchen. Not only did this seem to be where the servers liked to stand and talk loudly with each other, it also became the overflow areas for waiting diners, some of whom were practically leaning against my table as they waited. I was really disappointed - the dining room is very pretty and has a nice, calm atmosphere, one that is more in line with the price point of the menu. The service was attentive and the food was pretty good. I would go again, but would insist on a dining room table.

Wanted a French Bistro feel in midtown for lunch with a friend who was visiting from out of town and she was staying nearby. So glad I made this choice instead of going to one of my same old standbys. Beautiful, fresh ingredients. Wonderful attentive (not overbearing) service. Delicious, cold drinks and wine. Excellent ambiance. What more could you ask for?

Danielle, our server, was wonderful! From the start, she was welcoming, graciously ready to modify any order, and responsive to our need to meet a time constraint.

Marseille is the perfect place for before-theatre or between-theatre dining, being located just a couple of blocks away from the Theatre District (but far enough away to feel like a neighborhood place)! Great cocktails, yummy bistro-ish menu items, warm rolls and butter for the table, and fantastic service. On a recent visit, Johnny M. was our server, and he managed to be simultaneously gracious, elegant, friendly and fun -- taking several pictures of our group for us at our request.

Excellent food, service and cocktails. Oyster hour was a great find and they were very delicious. Best place to eat before a show.

It could be a little less noisy and cramped, but it was still a great meal!
