Matchbox Reston offers an energetic ambiance and great food, highlighted by "great food," "great service," and a "nice atmosphere." While some guests appreciate the dining experience, others note service delays and kitchen inefficiencies, particularly during brunch. Matchbox has typically been one of our go-to spots, but this visit was a major letdown—and unfortunately, it was our first and last time at this particular location. The food, which we usually enjoy, was well below the standard we’ve come to expect. Service was also disappointing from start to finish. Our starters arrived after our entrées, and when I asked to cancel them, the server simply left them on the table—and on the bill—without acknowledgment. The salads were underwhelming, with barely any dressing or toppings. No one checked in during the meal, and when someone finally came by to clear our plates, they didn’t ask how anything was or why most of our food had gone untouched. All around, it was a frustrating experience that left us with no plans to return.

Raw food like biscuits , took over 30 minutes to even be seated or asked what we wanted. Waited over a hour for food we ultimately left because it was Mothers day and it was ruined. Tried to charge us over 100 dollars because they had us sitting there from 315-500 pm when we finally decided to just leave .

This was hands down the worst brunch experience I’ve ever had. While I know it was Mother’s Day this became laughable. We checked in a few minutes early for our reservation - or at least tried to. It took nearly 10 minutes for the hostess to come back to take our name. Then another 5-10 minutes for the same employee to bus the empty tables so we could be seated. Our waitress stopped by after a few minutes to take our drink order and tell us she be bringing out biscuits for us to enjoy while we looked at the menu. It was another 10 minutes for her to return - without biscuits as ‘the kitchen was backed up’ (spoiler, we NEVER got any biscuits). We ordered and then spent the next 40 minutes waiting for food. 40 minutes later, the waitress brought us a dish we hadn’t ordered, saying the manager thought we might like to enjoy it while we were waiting for our food. What? How did the kitchen have time to cook something we DIDN’T order, instead of what we did? Another 10 minutes later we got part of what we ordered, but without any syrup or requested salt & pepper. That took - you guessed it - another 10 minutes, and arrived with our last item. It was another hour since we’d ordered. I was unable to have a coffee because they didn’t have the machine we were told. My mom’s second mimosa was missing orange juice. The breakfast sandwich we ordered looked like a smash burger - the brioche had been flattened, and the over-medium egg was beyond over-hard. They did end up comping our whole bill, which was something. But what I’d really wanted was a nice Mother’s Day brunch. They didn’t even come close to hitting that mark. The only upside was that we had patio seats, as the seats indoors would’ve been worse with the volume the DJ had the music up to. Not sure I’d give this Matchbox a second look. We did tip our waitress as we felt badly for her as she wasn’t likely doing well with tips given the kitchen and management incompetence. To top it off - no soap in the bathroom!!

The hosts were overwhelmed and people were not seated timely. Check in process was chaotic and guests ended up arguing with each other as there was no organized way to check in. If it wasn’t for the bartender, Lexi, taking control people would not have gotten seated. Lexi did a great job managing the situation and provided excellent service.

If I could give 0 stars I would. We never had a server, we just had to get up and find a manager whenever we wanted something. Half of our food never arrived and what did arrive took over 30-45 min. The food was very marginal in quality. Would not ever go back.

Was told we couldn’t order from the menu and the only option - all you can eat - would take the kitchen 2 - 3 hours. The server apologized and urged us to leave, which we did. On Mother’s Day. Zero stars.

The food was great. However, the kitchen was EXTREMELY slow! We went for the unlimited brunch and the restaurant was about half capacity for the majority of the time that we were there (arrived at 10:30am). We never did receive all of the food that we ordered and ended up leaving after not getting our second round of food. Our server was great in trying to communicate with us and continuously apologized for the long wait. The manager never once walked around to apologize or explain what was going on and left it to the servers who were visibly flustered as they had to deal with upset customers. I would consider trying the brunch again after the kitchen staff has had time to get their ducks in a row.

We went for brunch which has unlimited food for $38 per person and bottomless drinks for an additonal $25. The food and drinks took extremely long to come out and on top of that if we were missing anything like ranch, ketchup, etc. by the time is was brought out to us, our food was cold. Cotton Candy and popcorn also comes with the brunch but we waited about 8-9 minutes for someone to come make the cotton Candy. We won’t be visiting this location in the future.

We went to Mother's Day brunch. The service was poor. The wrong food was brought to the table twice. Orders were forgotten or brought to a different table who accepted it. It was nearly impossible to make orders. It took 20 minutes to get check, and nobody was available to validate parking. A large group left after 90 minutes without getting any food. The waiter tried to clear plates because he thought we were done with a shared item we had not yet received. Waters were not refilled.

We arrived for a Mother’s Day brunch and it wasn’t advertised that you could only choose the 40/person menu.
