Terrible Experience – Avoid at All Costs! I rarely write reviews, but after what we experienced here, I feel compelled to warn others. Our reservation was for 6:15, but we arrived around 6:25 due to parking issues. We were seated near the kitchen, right in a high-traffic area with the door opening and closing constantly. We asked to move to another section, and were told it would be a 25-minute wait. After an hour at the bar, we noticed that not a single table had food in front of them. Some women seated nearby had been waiting for over 1.5 hours and still hadn’t received their meals. It became clear that they had overbooked and the kitchen was backed up, unable to keep up with the demand. We decided to leave but had already ordered two cocktails and an appetizer while sitting at the bar. After waiting about 20 minutes for the appetizer, we asked our server, Aaron, to remove it so we could pay for the drinks and leave. He said only the manager could handle that, and we waited another 5 minutes. At this point, my husband was starving and frustrated, and he just wanted to pay and go. Aaron then threatened to call the police over $23 worth of drinks because he couldn't charge us without the manager's approval. We spoke to another manager, who apologized and said we could leave. But Aaron ran after my husband, claiming they had cameras and threatening to call the cops. Thankfully, the manager stepped in and the situation was resolved. This place is a complete disaster – they overbooked, couldn’t handle the kitchen load, and the service was abysmal. The staff was unprofessional and rude. We will never be returning, and I highly recommend you stay away.

Service needs a lot of work. Lack of acoustic mitigation makes it impossible to hear anyone in your party. This restaurant should not be serving customers until they’ve spent more time refining their service.

Absolute terrible service. We had a reservation and not even 5 minutes after we were seated, they moved us to make room for a larger party. Our server was very slow bringing out drinks, appetizers, and main courses. We had to remind him that we were waiting for our food so he leaves and then suddenly he brings it out, but you could tell it was sitting for a while as it was not fully hot. We waited an additional 45 minutes to get water for everyone. Our reservation was at 5:15pm and we didn't leave till after 7pm due to the long wait. Cherry on top was asking for the check and waiting another 20 minutes, just for us to have to get out of our seat to hunt down our waiter to finally get our check so we could go. The food was very mid and very expensive. The atmosphere was very dark and crowded. Everyone surrounded around us were also waiting for their food. I feel like they should have stopped seating so many people because their staff obviously could not keep up. Definitely would not come back. The review would have been better if our server took the time out to communicate and check up on us. Instead he neglected our table and left us to ask others for service.

The restaurant and decor was beautiful! They have a nice outdoor sitting area. The drinks were yummy. However, the food was mediocre. We tried several dishes and the best one was the queso blanco and chips. The salsa was also very good. I am glad that I tried it, but would not go back.

Not worth it. Although we loved the ambience of the restaurant, the food and service were merely mediocre and not worth the expense. We had a large party of 8, and we were all very excited about this restaurant opening and celebrating the holidays there together. Everyone ordered something different, so we had a chance to sample a wide variety of dishes. The lobster funding at $20 per order was a lovely garlicky, buttery melted cheese to scoop into pinkish- purple hibiscus tortillas. The lobster pieces were tiny, barely there shreds. We were thinking a few larger sized chunks would have made it a more complete dish. The chicken fajitas were just bad. They were far too dry and barely edible. The tortilla soup was also lacking. There was what seemed to be one large chicken tender in the cup of soup, making it a bit difficult to eat and enjoy. The steak on the steak and eggs brunch menu was very well cooked, however, and very flavorful. The lump crab enchiladas were the favorite of the family. Comparatively, everything else paled significantly. The service was slow. We were there for more than half an hour before chips and salsa were served. We already had drinks, and I had to ask for our server to come over so we could place our appetizer order and again to place our meal orders. The only thing that happened quickly was the presentation of the bill that I was all too ready to pay. We won't return, but hope that others will benefit from our leaving this feedback.

HOLY MOLY! We are HUGE fans of the Mexican Sugars' in DFW and heard one finally opened in Houston (Montrose, right next to River Oaks in the Regent Square center). My wife and I couldn't resist nd we were BLOWN AWAY! The space is HUGE and GORGEOUS! The staff was super friendly, and the food and drinks were even better than we expected with them being open for less than a week. So glad we decided to make the trip. Walk - don't run - to the new Mexican Sugar - WOW! Pro Tip, GO UPSTAIRS!

Overall decent place, could improve on small details. Espresso martinis were too sweet, we asked our waiter if the bartender could make a regular espresso martini with tequila reposado instead of vodka vs the one that they had on the menu. My friend and I even told the server how to tell the bartender how to make it, and he replied with “so like a carajillo?” And we replied with “those are two completely different drinks.” Our waiter came back and brought us the new espresso martinis, but they tasted like if they had just added cold brew with tequila reposado. I do not recommend their espresso martinis.

Now, I might be a little bias because prior to going to Mexican Sugar. I channelled my inner Snoop Dogg.. lol So my senses were laser focused. Our waiter, Steven was fantastic! He made great recommendations, was very knowledgeable about the menu and was attentive throughout the evening. We had Marinated Shrimp, queso, lobster/steak fajitas and Lump Crab Enchiladas. All were an absolute hit. We will definitely be back

Our apps, entree and cocktails were SO GOOD. We followed our waiter’s suggestions and he was spot on. STEVEN is the best! We started the night off with the Grandioso margarita and added muddled jalapeños with a tajin rim. Delicious! Then we enjoyed marinated shrimp and the arepas. For our entree, we had the steak and lobster fajitas served with their freshly made corn tortillas. I was hesitant to order the corn tortillas because usually they break and do not have enough substance but these were the exception. Thick and so tasty! Best meal we have had in a long time.
