About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Hot spot
  • Lively
Loud conversation over plates of steaming noodles. The rush of servers moving quickly about in starched white dress shirts and pressed black bow ties. Darkly lit nooks with deep shades of red. The clanking of cutlery as cocktails are shaken swiftly in the background. A fragrant scent of Sichuan peppercorns toasting in the wok. Moments of celebration and togetherness over both new and familiar food. MIMI Chinese offers a place of wonder that brings back a taste of the past.

It’s a vibe MB in a weird location with good enough food that is overpriced. Chinese food can be gourmet but generally isn’t to justify this kind of pricing. The service was attentive and the dishes we ordered were overall good with the exception of the lamb dish, which was not tasty enough and significantly expensive. We will probably go back and sit at the bar to nibble and drink.

This started out shaky and got worse. The entrance is through a dirty walkway of an empty building. The hostess let us know we would not have an independent table as requested and we were put on the “line dance” wall bench. The decoration was nice, but we were upset as they had to tee empty tables we could have had (two remained empty for the hour we were there) The wine list was ambitious and overpriced. Because we were choosing spicy Chinese, we opted for beer. After one beer, we were told they were out of beer. The two couples sitting next to us on the bench both got the menu. Their food don’t fit on the small tables and were continually asking the waiter to slow down the delivery as no time to eat and no room to place the next plates. Our dumplings and shrimp toast were good. We settled in thinking this could be ok … Then the “Hidden Chicken” our waiter forgot to tell us that the mound of chilis delivered actually had the chicken at the bottom and to not eat the chilis. We figured it out, but really??!! The four foot noodles and green beens were uneatable due to the salt content. We decided to cut our losses, told them to take the plates, paid and left. Headed to Setai for dumplings and wine :)

MIMI is excellent. Clean savory food, charming service, pescatarian/vegetarian options and seductive ambiance. Also one the cleanest drinks Ive ever tasted: perfectly balanced white tequila, syrup and lemon juice. I was traveling from NY and wanted to try Chinese fare in Miami and I was very impressed. Many thanks. I will return. SD

The food was decent but certainly not worth the price for Chinese food and the service gave abominable new meaning. We didn’t see our waiter once after he took the order. To add insult to injury our gps took us to a parking lot next door to the restaurant where we parked our car, only to find it towed when we finished dinner. The hostess knew we parked there and didn’t say anything and other diners sited this as a problem in their reviews. It is shocking that the restaurant doesn’t warn its patrons about this. The manager said he would reimburse us for the tow charge, so we forwarded the receipt (almost $400) then he backed out saying we could come dine there again. The whole experience left us never wanting to return.

Yasser was fantastic! He walked us through the menu, recommended drinks and food, and made sure that my guests and I were well taken care of.

We had the tasting menu. The sea bass in ginger scallion was good as was the pork belly dish. Nice deserts. Most of the food was meh. Very expensive for what it was. If I were to go back I’d order a couple of mains and a plain white rice for 2 people. We’re from NYC and are spoiled in regard to Chinese food. Mimi’s is twice the price and half as good.

Super fun dinner with a group of four. We started with shrimp toast, dumplings and cucumber salad. The cucumber salad offered a really nice crunchy and acidic flavor profile against the delicious savory other items. We shared the hidden chicken (super fun and not super spicy) and the hunan chili sea bass (which we opted to have served without the head). The sea bass was a highlight for me- good amount of spice along side nice flavor. The rice noodle rolls were also a highlight. Finished with this yummy boiled cake custardy dessert that had some egg yolks inside and some green tea. Definitely a great restaurant to bring a larger group. Noise level was on the higher side but worth it because food was awesome.
