A Family Tradition For Over 90 Years

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant first opened in 1934 with Mrs. Knott and her children serving the first customers in their tea room. The restaurant has grown over the years into one of the largest in California, but the classic fried chicken dinner is still made the same way today using Mrs. Knott's recipes.

Every complete chicken dinner includes handmade biscuits, side salad, choice of cabbage or cherry rhubarb, three pieces of fried chicken, and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. For dessert: your choice of boysenberry pie or boysenberry sherbet. Many other dishes are also available including grilled chicken, salads, and a number of appetizers. A full-service bar, serving signature boysenberry-infused cocktails, is also available.

Currently, we are following all government-issued regulations and seating is currently outside only. Thank you in advance for understanding and we are in this together.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner offers "delicious comfort food" with standout dishes like fried chicken and chicken pot pie. The "huge portions" provide excellent value, and the "warm, welcoming service" enhances the dining experience. Though parking can be a challenge, the overall "nostalgic atmosphere" and "memorable meals" make it a must-visit.

I ordered the Chicken Parmesan because the minimum fried chicken order was 1/2 chicken. The middle of my dish was hot but the sides were cold. The bottom was burnt. Texture and temperature was like it was microwaved unevenly. The broccoli that came with it wasn’t even warmed up, still cold from refrigeration. They charged nearly $8.00 for a glass of flat soda. I felt rushed because they kept coming to my table asking if I’d like it to go. Maybe they were expecting me to complain but I wanted out as well because some women at the bar were very loud and obnoxious. They kept screaming every time they spilled their drinks, which was every 2 minutes. The biscuits were doughy as well. Disappointed. I have fond memories of this place of having excellent food and service. I don’t know what happened but I don’t think I’ll ever go back. I saw some other restaurants in the area that look interesting. I’m done with this place!

Impeccable service without flaw, a very delightful experience. The traditional chicken dinner brought back old memories. A definite stop when in Buena Park and a certain return visit.

Service was great, however found the Mrs. Knott's fried chicken lunch entree to be not up to par with past experiences. Mind you, it's been close to 20 years since visiting the chicken house, so we were all excited to relive the memories! not so fast, the chicken was very dry, although it had a nice crisp to it, was obviously overcooked. For the price (2-piece) lunch entree @ $20, plus parking definitely, no plans to return due to the abundance of other local fried chicken locations in the area. The lone bright spot was our server, who waited on our large group and patiently answered question after question, probably multiple times; and provided great service with a smile. More than can be said for the 2 hostesses who did little to nothing to make the first impression of being a valued customer. C'mon Mrs. Knotts, you can at least throw a slice of pie into the meal for less than $7!!

Pricing may seem a little pricey, however, food quantity and quality makes up for it. If you are looking for a quiet dinning experience this not the place, remember it Knott's you do get tried kids who now and then put up a fuss. Just a good family dinning house.

when I got there I was so surprised to hear the parking was $50. The food was really good. The atmosphere was nice. The waiter seemed a little overwhelmed. I had to ask him to refill my iced tea but after that, he came around it was good. It was great cause I met up with some cousins that I haven't seen in years and we talked and laughed, and it was great.

Food is great, and service is great, but READ THE WHOLE MENU BEFORE ORDERING. We had lunch at Knott's and expected the lunch, not dinner, menu. We arrive and the only menu is a QSR on the table top which, when opened, showed a lunch menu with lunch prices. Somewhere buried in the fine print is that the lunch menu is that these items and pricing only good M-F from 11-4. We were dining on a Saturday and were not told that ONLY THE DINNER MENU WAS IN USE, and thus we were charged dinner menu prices and NOT given the normal add-ons (like soup and salad) that go with the dinner menu entrees. so when our check came it was substantially higher than expect, and all the waiter could do is apologize but not correct the pricing. We don't know anyone who reads an entire menu before ordering - you scan the menu and pick something that looks good to you, BUT YOU BETTER READ IT WHEN GOING TO KNOTT'S TO AVOID A NASTY SURPRISe WHEN THE CHECK COMES.

Super nice service very accommodating. We’re really nice to my brother whose birthday we were celebrating and he has autism. They were all very sweet and patient and kind food was great, especially for the value would highly recommend and go again.

I did not have high expectations for this restaurant, thinking it would be poor quality tourist food; however was very pleasantly surprised. The price was very reasonable for hot and fresh biscuits with butter and jam, salad starter, another side (I had the rhubarb), main meal and a dessert. Our food was very hot and service was good. We had 3 boxes of leftovers for two adults and a child, which highlights the large portions of food. I would happily come here again.

We had not been to Knott’s for dinner in years, so we decided to take the family. We had Sunday early dinner (4:30 reservation). Overall, we had a good time, and our server, Melanie, was amazing. She was thoughtful and kind and on top of things despite the busy dining room. The noise level was high, which is okay if you’re prepared for it, but we did have to shout to each other once in a while. People all seemed to be having a good time, so the energy is happy, but it is quite noisy. The food is okay. I’m not sure what I remembered, but the best dishes are the fried chicken and the chicken Parmesan. The boys loved the chicken noodle soup. The drinks are $6.99. They are refillable but that seemed excessive. Water tasted a little off as well. Not sure how to explain it. We did enjoy ourselves as a family, and Melanie is great and will take good care of you, but know that it will be pricey. Also parking is refunded if you go to guest services with your restaurant receipt and your parking receipt.
