Open Mon/Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun, closed Tues/Wed. Muoi Tieu is a cozy family-run Vietnamese restaurant and market in the heart of Takoma Park, Maryland, with a small but carefully curated menu that offers a combination of popular Vietnamese dishes (e.g., pho, spring rolls) and less common home-style dishes (e.g., braised pork belly, pan-fried fish with ginger nuoc cham) with plenty of gluten-free and vegan options. Our small market also offers a variety of common Vietnamese condiments, pantry items, and Asian snacks. Like our name, which means "salt and pepper" in Vietnamese, our concept is simple: we want to bring classic, savory Vietnamese food to our community.

I was super excited to try Muoi Tieu for my birthday. We had an early (11:30 am) lunch reservation so we were the first table seated in the restaurant. Our waiter was super nice but service fell off quickly after another table or two came in and food took a REALLY long time to come out. I had mentioned we were celebrating a birthday when I made the reservation but the restaurant didn't acknowledge it in any way (not even a candle in the dessert we ordered). The decor is really cute but the tables are very close together so it was hard to have a conversation with my companion over the louder conversation at the next table. The roast pork vermicelli was delicious. My companion liked her chicken ban minh but ended up taking out all the chicken because there was so much filling in the sandwich. I guess that is a good problem to have. I will admit I am not familiar with steamed banana cake so my plate might have been very authentic but it was not the "cake" I was expecting, but certainly full of banana flavor.

This is a wonderful neighborhood Vietnamese spot with great food, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, an attentive and informative staff, and a really good market section that has some fun snacks and groceries from across Asia. The locals love this place for a reason, so definitely check it out!

As a family, we enjoy eating Vietnamese food on a regular basis- but I had never had a favorite Vietnamese restaurant until Muoi Tieu opened in January in the space that was formerly long-time neighborhood favorite Mark's Kitchen. MT continues the legacy of outstanding and creative cuisine in this space - but with a different twist. I have eaten at MT 4 times, and as a vegetarian, I am thrilled that some of my favorite veggie Vietnamese dishes are on MT's menu - including goi cuon (spring rolls) with shiitake mushrooms (delicious!), banh xeo (sizzling crepes) also with mushrooms as well as fresh greens, pickled radish and carrots (so savory!) and bun (rice vermicelli bowl) with lemongrass tofu and a vegetarian "fish" sauce (tangy and very satisfying!). They also have vegan pho (noodle soup) which I'm looking forward to trying. For meat and seafood lovers - there are plenty of options which other members of the family have raved about. Another favorite of ours is the "Banh Beo" appetizer - a petite and scrumptious, light rice cake topped with shrimp or vegetables and tofu and that comes with a savory sauce to drizzle over. The owner, Thuy-Tu, whose mother is the head cook, has mentioned that Banh Beo was a childhood favorite of hers. Thuy-Tu often makes the rounds around the cozy and well-lit dining room and chats with guests, sharing her passion for the food on her carefully-crafted menu, pointing out with pride that every dish is freshly-made and immediately plated. We are thrilled to now have a favorite Vietnamese restaurant which we plan to keep on coming back to and bringing along more family and friends. Full disclosure: My daughter has been working as a server at MT for the past 4 months, so of course I’m biased about the service, but I say in earnest that the service is prompt, efficient and friendly - and that goes for the whole floor staff. I highly recommend making Muoi Tieu your go-to place for creative and wholly-satisfying Vietnamese food.

The spring rolls, lemon grass chicken, bronzino were all delicious. The banana cake unusual and very satisfying. Attrative presentation and gracious service. Lovely ambience. We will definitely return to this inviting restaurant.

I want this restaurant to succeed! Service was stretched to the limit—it took over 30 minutes for our appetizers to arrive and one entree came before the appetizers. Our food was very good and tasty. I will go back at a calmer less busy time!
