Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Melissa Miranda

From the OpenTable editors: Food & Wine Best New Chef Melissa Miranda is leading a new generation of Filipino food at Musang, serving up innovative takes on her childhood favorites. That means dishes like a Filipino bent to Caesar salad, mushroom sisig, and rich short rib kare kare, all of which led to several nominations for James Beard Awards. Locals love the cozy dining room inside the craftsman-style purple house, which spills out into a brick-lined back patio.

The food is good. The service seems likes it's probably usually good. It just wasn't for me.

Our recent visit was a mix of highs and lows, but for the price, the lows stood out a little too much. The food itself was quite good—flavors were well-balanced, and the ingredients seemed high quality. However, the $50 pork chop was unfortunately very dry. Thankfully, the accompanying sauce helped salvage it, but at that price point, I expected a more expertly executed dish. One of the biggest issues was the service. While I have no problem paying for good service, the 22% automatic gratuity was both hidden and unjustified given the experience. Our server was performatively casual, rarely checked on us, and we had to flag someone down just to get another drink. She also had an air of rudeness, and while I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt—especially after watching her accidentally spill an entire glass of wine on another diner—it’s hard to overlook when the service charge is mandatory. The atmosphere had potential, with a nice dining environment, but the loud music felt out of place for what should be a more refined experience. For a meal that totaled $300—including two small plates, two large plates, and three drinks—I expected better execution, service, and overall ambiance. While the food had its moments, the overall experience didn’t justify the cost, and I’d be hesitant to return.

Our first time there. Amazing food!! We were familiar with some of the dishes at Filipino's parties. However the food at musang it is at the Michelin level. Strongly recomend this place. We will be back there soon.

Our waiter Phil was fantastic! Food was amazing! Restaurant was a bit loud. As I’m getting old and cantankerous, I’d love to return when they are not as busy (if there is such a time), to enjoy the fabulous food in a quieter setting.

Sitting next to a speaker made it a tad too loud but was a lovely experience otherwise.
