In 1992, thrown together on Cape Cod by political circumstances none of them could have predicted, four young Yugoslavs founded Pain D'Avignon.Their goal was to recreate the Old World Traditions using baking techniques and recipes barely changed in centuries. Their founding principle: fine breads deserve to be at the center of the dining experience, not a mere afterthought. At their Hyannis bakery, the timeless art of bread making is both revered and respected. Everyday salt, flour and filtered water are combined – like the bakers themselves – with a distinctly European flavor.

I was looking for an upscale, romantic spot for Valentine’s Day dinner. Many dining spots on Cape Cod were closed for winter or booked weeks ahead of time. I chose poorly. 1. No convenient parking. I had to park in an adjacent airport parking lot and paid $7. 2. Table was very small. I am not tiny, but certainly not huge (36 waist) and I barely fit into the chair. The arms were tight to my waist. 3. The service was painfully slow. We had a 7:30pm reservation. It was almost 20 minutes before our waiter arrived with water. Our cocktails arrived 20 minutes later. Entrees at 9:30pm, then dessert. 4. Only time waiter was around was to deliver or remove plates. Busboy and hostess were helping but were unable to take drink orders. 5. The menu was limited, which should have sped things up since they were obviously well over their capacity. Prix fixe was $75 not including drinks, tax or tip. Therefore, I was expecting the food to be gourmet. However, it was just OK. Oyster chowder was very good, truffle risotto was bland, duck breast was OK and halibut was passable (largely because of the sauce). Chocolate mousse cake was dry. We did receive a complimentary bag with signature bread and cookies when we left. We witnessed one couple leaving before the waiter showed up and two adjacent tables that had to ask for utensils to continue their meal. The table next to us said they were informed at 8:30pm that only two of the five entree choices remained. (But, to be fair, those were not our personal experiences.) I’ve had brunch here before and it was very good. I hope this improves. We need fine dining options.

I thr duck and it was not great….unloved duck and would say it was so tough I asked for a steak knife and even then it was very hard to cut. I would say it was just a bad piece of meat. My husband’s meal was very good he had the tenderloin. I did not return the meal as it was a pre fixed menu and I hate to hold up other while eating

Food was very good. Service great. Wonderful attentive waiter. Negative is that it is a little expensive & we were seated at a rather small table for two.

The food was extremely mediocre and expensive. The chicken was overcooked and the accompanying green beans were flavorless; the burger was also overcooked, the fries undercooked, and the bun was greasy; the pasta with vegetables was flavorless, requiring a heaping of Parmesan to give some flavor. Not worth it!

It was a cute classy brunch spot on the cape with a piano and nice chandelier long table room as nice touches - service was great and food was really good - would love to come back again and check out dinner. The cappuccino, croquet monsieur, and their spin on the Bloody Mary are must-trys!

Nice brunch menu with a unique variety of options. Service was great until it got close to the early closing time this particular day , staff was distracted and more focused on the early closing than anything else . Purchased some cookies and bread before we left and pretty sure I was overcharged at the take out counter. Called but never received a callback. Cookies were delicious.wouldn’t buy the bread again no flavor dry .
