We visited Peony Pavilion for a group lunch and it did not disappoint. The menu has many items that may not be found at a more "Americanized" Chinese restaurant. The portions were large and we ate them family style. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable. His recommendations were delicious and we will definitely be back!

What appears to be Peony Pavilion 2.0 has arrived, and I think it's an improvement. The area now has too many Asian fusion type places and PP's switch to a more straightforward and ethnically deep menu (e.g., jellyfish, beef tendon) is welcome. The deserted sushi bar is no great loss. They are not trying to please everyone, but they certainly pleased me. However, I can understand why someone expecting PP 1.0 would be disappointed, especially since the menu on OpenTable is no longer operative. The one on Weebly is about right except for the sushi. I had the sizzling tofu with red pickled pepper and egg and it was terrific, as was the cucumber salad to start things off. Service was friendly and efficient, reminiscent of the old Sunny Garden.

The service was poor. Also the premises (grounds outside) were littered with junk from a previous night's party. Very unsatisfactory experience.

Although we had eaten at Peony several times, we will not be returning. The food was bland and service was lacking. The menu that appeared on Open Table was misleading-- the restaurant has closed its sushi bar, but that was not mentioned on the web site. Serving utensils must have been in short supply: soup was served with teaspoons, main dishes with forks. Rice didn't arrive until after our sizzling platter had cooled down and then it was not what we ordered. Both the sizzling seafood and chow fun were tasteless. When we asked for mustard, we were told that they didn't have any (same goes for crispy noodles). The noise level was high due to several large parties seated nearby. Overall, it was a disappointing way to spend an evening.

Everything about this restaurant was awful. We waited a half hour for our table even though there were many empty tables available. We had to stop a waiter and ask him to take our order. It took forever for our appetizer to come out while people who arrived 40 mins after us were served their entire meal immediately. We took one bite of the vegetable dumplings and decided to leave the restaurant. A large table next to us told us it was their worst dinner experience ever.

Current menu, which looked so unmatched to the beautiful place, is limited to Hunan dishes only. I was looking forward to what we had there last year during holidays. Service could be more consistent among all waiting staff. Sorry to see its being scaled down trajectory, in both varieties and overall quality.

Thoroughly impressed with the food! Very authentic Chinese dishes that had vibrant and delicious flavor. Got to speak with the owner Lisa as well, her passion for her restaurant was obvious. If it was not for the convo with her, I would have never known that the orange peppers in the Crispy Spicy Chicken we're edible! (And tasted like popcorn!)

We have been through the numerous changes from Sunny Garden to now Peony Pavillion. Upon our first time at Peony Pavillion, we did not care for the menu. We heard that the entire kitchen had changed so we went back. GREAT. They have hit on the right combination of taste, menu selection, ambience and service. Will definitely go back.
