About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Nestled in the heart of downtown Western Springs, Petite Vie offers a menu curated with classic French dishes infused with Chef Paul Virant's signature flair. Spending time researching in France for inspiration, Virant has crafted every dish with meticulous attention to detail and a reverence for tradition.

Seating 65 guests, Petite Vie’s intimate space exudes the warmth and comfort of a traditional French brasserie, while seamlessly blending modern design elements. A collaboration between Virant, his wife Jennifer and long-time friend and designer Jody Tate, every detail at Petite Vie tells a story of meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful curation.

Featuring French intricacy and layering, the space is a canvas of artistic expression, with artwork curated from both local talents and treasures acquired during the team's time in Paris. Framed prints, commissioned paintings, and a round antique mirror passed down through generations, adorn the walls, adding layers of intrigue.

Went for brunch with my granddaughter. She’s a piscatarian, I’m dairy free. We had no problem with the varied selections and the chef was very accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. We never felt rushed, but our server was appropriately attentive. I am from out of state, and will make sure I come back whenever I am in the area. I highly recommend this restaurant for brunch!

The food was quite tasty and a nice presentation. We probably won’t return because it was just kind of cramped & noisy. The banquette tables were so small and the space between them so tiny I had to turn sideways to get through and I am not a big person. It was kind of a turn off to have to give them my credit card in order to make the reservation. Too many items at market price, and too many selections with truffles. Add to that an extra admin fee and it’s just a bit overpriced.

Always wonderful service and food. Atmosphere is lacking in some sound reduction. At times, more than lively sound when patrons and staff laughing (and having a good time) doesn't allow one to enjoy their own conversation because we can't hear each other over the folks 3 tables away.

Great food - very thoughtfully prepared, flavorful sauces and garnishes. Excellent service - sat at the bar and the server was very attentive and conversational, knowledgeable about both food and wine. Not cheap, but this has become our new #1 spot for date night or nights out with another couple.

Wonderful French restaurant in Chicago's western suburbs. Beautiful beverage and food menus. The bar seats were perfect as were the service and the food. We enjoyed dinner so much that we returned after a concert for drinks and dessert. You can't go wrong with the cassoulet special, cod en papillote, seasonal vegetables, baguette, any French red wine, the profiteroles or the nougat glacee. Couldn't be happier.

It was not the first time in this restaurant, however it was the first time reserving through OpenTable - to our surprise we got seated in a back room (did not know about it) - with an entrance right across from the bathrooms You could get a chemical cleaner smell from the bathroom (not ideal to say the least) - the music from the front you could barely hear, but in exchange the background noise from other tables conversations in the room was echoing When asked on what criteria are people with reservations seated in front or in the back , because on OpenTable appears just one option (standard) we were told that we are supposed to call if we want to seat in the front So if you want a table in the front just call them
