Piccolo Buco Roma - set mere steps from Rome's famed Trevi Fountain - is where Cooper's Hawk Founder, Tim McEnery, first discovered Chef Luca Issa and his wonderful pizza. The ingredients were deceptively simple: creamy, indulgent mozzarella mingled with a bright and bold tomato sauce. But it was the extraordinary, tall crust - crisp on the outside yet cloud-like at the center - that won his heart. He couldn't wait to introduce America to a pizza this special!

Food was delicious. However, service could have been better. The waiter forgot to bring us a kids menu(ended up looking the kids menu up online), then we were half way done with our pizza before we got Parmesan cheese for our pizza, the bottle of water on our table was never refilled .The bathroom was completely out of paper towels and only one of the sinks had soap. I understand it was a Saturday night and it was busy but more attention should be made to these details .We were a table of 9 celebrating my mom's birthday and we weren't even asked if we were celebrating any occasion even though I made it clear in my reservation, what we are celebrating. I've been here a handful of times and I've always been impressed with the food and service so I decided to take my whole family for their first time and I was disappointed in our experience.

The food was amazing and the service was great! It did feel like we were at a Cooper's Hawk, though, and not an Italian restaurant. Another thing that was similar to a past Cooper's Hawk experience was that we had to wait 15 minutes with a reservation. The restaurant was fairly empty at 4:00 pm and the hostess told us they're just clearing our table when we checked in right at our reservation time, but we still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Not really a big deal, but it's not a pleasant experience when you had a time reserved and you're waiting fairly long to finally be seated. We had the Pasta Fagioli, which was fantastic, and the short rib papardelle and rigatoni alla vodka, both of which were soooo good and light. It didn't feel heavy like normal when eating pasta. The chocolate hazelnut cake and gelato trio was also delicious! Our server, Robert R., was friendly and helpful! He didn't rush us at all and was honest and knowledgeable. The restaurant is in the Oak Brook Mall area, so parking can be a challenge.

Never have been to an Italian restaurant that bread or bruschetta or calamari is not in the menu. That is a deal breaker!!! Menu needs to improve.

This was a special occasion as we went to Piccolo Buco for our daughter's birthday. Unfortunately, this experience left a lot to be desired. It started out with requesting silverware for two since we only had two sets at our table of four. That simple request was never fulfilled and we had to go forage it from a different table when our appetizers arrived. Three of our pizza entrees arrived together, however my daughter's request for gluten-free crust was not fulfilled. I have to put this on the server as the ticket clearly showed it was not entered as gluten-free. She isn't allergic to gluten so she just went with it. The last pizza did not arrive and after some time the server came back to inform us that there was a "screw-up in the kitchen" and the last pizza would be out in 3-5 minutes. Well that turned into another 10-15 minutes and everyone else was done eating. Not a great experience especially for a special occasion. Pretty sure we won't be driving 25 minutes to Piccolo Buco for a special occasion again. Might stop in if I'm shopping in the mall, but then again there are many other great choices too.

Love the pizza at Piccolo Buco! The crust is fluffy and chewy, with a tad bit of crunch. Tip: they don’t have ranch for pizza since it’s an Italian Restaraunt, but we get a side of the creamy Italian dressing and the fluffy crust tastes amazing when dunked. We love that this place also accepts our Wine Club membership to Cooper’s Hawk so we can always get a bottle of wine for the table.
