Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
POGU in Daly City offers "great variety of hard to find Korean dishes" with creative and flavorful options like buckwheat noodles and blue crab cabbage. While service has been praised as "extremely attentive" and the ambiance "upscale," some operational kinks remain. Overall, it's "worth a visit" as they refine their offerings.

My friends and I agreed that the meal we had at Pogu was enjoyable for a first time experience but we would not come back. We Live an hour away but that’s not the only reason. The ambience is nice, the food presentation was 5 star. The menu is very limited. There is a starter section, noodles and rice dishes section and soups. We thought it was the Lunch menu and wanted to order from the dinner menu hoping there would be more entrees but no, there is only 1 menu for Lu ch and dinner. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted good. The reason for the 3 stars is because we expected the food to wow us. We enjoyed the new experience but would not return.

The seafood tofu soup was great, the broth was nice and hot (temp wise) and it stayed hot so you can enjoy hot soup throughout the meal, however it could have additional veggies. The broth was very tasty. The 100 year old abalone dish needed more seasoning and the abalone was tough. The blue crab salad was tasty but we were advised by the waiter that it was not real crab, though on the menu it was listed as blue crab. Overall, not bad. I would return for the seafood tofu soup, please add a little more veggies.

First time here since they opened one month ago. Very nice and clean restaurant. Not too much items to selected in the menu. We ordered the Abalone Jangbap and Seafood & soft tofu jjigae. Abalone was very crunchy and fresh and the rice was mixed with special ingredients and sauce. Portion was small but it tasted very good. The seafood stew was very bland not enough flavor but I asked the spicy sauce on the side. Once you put it inside the soup then it tasted a little better. Our server Alvin gave us the best service. He was very friendly and always asked us if we needed anything. A+ for our server. It is always nice to try new restaurant especially the chef has Michelin star.

was excited for my first time dining here and booked it for a month after grand opening to let the service get better after seeing bad reviews came on a monday night at 7pm and did not need reservation, the restaurant throughout was very quiet and not busy menu itself did not have much and we decided to do ala cart ordered pogu kimchi noodle , gangwon buckwheat , abalone jangbap , and seafood soft tofu jjigae first off 4 dishes were not enough to split between 4 people we wanted 2 cocktails and asked for recommendations the yuzu soju and makgeolli pina colado wanted to get the yogurt highball and was told it was greek yogurt based but not yakult when we were ready to pay the bill a chef came over to explain the yogurt highball was indeed yakult based and gave it to us on the house to try, but ratio to highball was not enough. way too sweet and tasted more like a soju cocktail overall experience was mid, worth a try but not enough to go again i understand they are still new so i hope they can continue to improve

Came here for lunch. The service was excellent. We ordered from the standard lunch/dinner menu instead of the prix fixe menu of $95 per person. The standard menu has 10 entrees and 4 appetizers to choose from. The entrees range from $23-$38 and the appetizers $16-$22. My wife the Bulgogi Rice Bowl (Korean BBQ Beef) and I ordered the Seafood and Soft Tofu Jjigae (tofu stew). In addition to the meal, we were provided with complimentary Korean bread, Kimchi and some small appetizer items. Both dishes tasted great though the seafood was little messy with the shells. We’ll probably go there again to try some of the other entrees.

The menu is small so at first I was apprehensive…. But oh wow each item I got was special! Everything tasted great in good presentation. Even the seaweed banchan was delicious enough to eat a bowl of rice with. The ambiance and furniture are beautiful though still newly opened so will see how everything age overtime. It sits inside a grocery store so noise wise it’s understandable- you know what you are getting into

The food was average. Nothing special about the Gangwon Noodle. It was more of a salad versus a soup. They were out of 3 teas on the menu. The service was as actually the best part. Servers went out of their way to help us with food decisions.

The food is average. Service is not good. We needed to wave our hands, call 2 to 3 times before we could get our water fill or get extra spoon and chopsticks

Honestly I was a little nervous about dining here given the flood of negative reviews I've seen during its opening days. Luckily it looks like they're on track towards working the operational details out as I had a fantastic dining experience here. I came here on Tuesday at 5pm and was greeted by staff and seated quickly. We ordered a la carte and the food and banchans were brought out extremely quick upon ordering (almost too quick as everything came out all at once, including the appetizer. That's the only critique). Given the price point ($20-30 per appetizer/entree), I was extremely impressed by the beautiful presentation of the food, it sure looked like it was prepared by a michelin starred chef. I particularly enjoyed the buckwheat noodle and blue crab cabbage, it was extremely flavorful and creative - they definitely do refreshing and lighter dishes really well! We also had the bulgolgi rice bowl and seafood jiggae, which were good but not particularly special when compared to other traditional korean restaurants. The bulgogi was well marinated but a tad bit too dry. The servers were extremely attentive and checked in with us, giving us water refills every now and then, very excellent service! I also really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant, it was just a nice place to chill and relax after a chaotic shopping experience. The whole experience felt quite upscale but the price point was decently affordable (by no means cheap but for bay area it's quite bang for buck), I am not exactly sure how they're able to profit from this. I would absolutely return for their buckwheat noodles and look forward to trying the rest of the menu!! I urge you to give them a chance as it looks like they're doing their best to improve the restaurant.
