We like having dinner at Prelude + Post before going to a show at the DCPA. It's easy and convenient to park once and not have to walk to the theatre. Overall, Prelude + Post is solid. The cocktails are very good, the food is good, and we have always had excellent service. The atmosphere is a bit bland. My son said it felt like being in a hotel. I think softer lighting, more color on the walls would go a long way to making the ambience more inviting. None-the-less, this is a very good option for pre-theatre dining.

You can't beat convenience dining here before watching Hamilton! I saw the mixed reviews on food items, but thought we'd have no problem since we're not picky. Our server was great! She was attentive, friendly, offered suggestions when we asked. We had a 6:15 individual table reservation (vs the community table) for an 8pm Thurs show, which was more than enough time since they were very quick to get food out to us. With dessert, we paid the check 7:20pm. The two of us shared the Salumi + Fromage (charcuterie board), Winter salad, and Shrimp alfredo. I would order the charcuterie and winter salad again. The shrimp was good, the alfredo sauce was ok (could've used some parmesan on top, but they didn't offer). The carrot cake looked like a torte. But the cake layers were not cakey, more like a crumbly cookie (dry). Should've ordered the creme brulee, as other reviewers said. Noise is moderate, so you can have conversations.

The food was mediocre. My salmon was over cooked and my carrots were undercooked. The service was poor. I asked for water twice and was served on a plate that had a big chip. The clearer who also served just piled the new plates in the middle of the small table without clearing the smaller plates. I have been here at least 3 other times and it was decent. The location can’t be beat. I go to a restaurant for the food and this was not worth the price.

Great small plates & cocktails. Service was also on point and attentive. Crème brûlée was just ok - the custard had a mildly gritty texture like they did it with corn starch. The bill was not outrageous at all and we did not leave hungry. I would dine again, but the one thing that might give pause is the ambience. It's oddly very bright in the dining rooms; makes it feel like a lunch room rather than a nice restaurant for dinner before the theatre. With more appropriate lighting, the space would feel much more intimate and upscale.

Three of us shared bites before seeing Hamilton. Mixed drink selection excellent, fun concoctions. Our favorite food was beef short ribs. Deviled eggs, goat cheese with bread and French fries were quite good. The salmon was dry and a bit overcooked. Key lime dessert was very nice. Solid food, service and good experience.

I love the location of Prelude and Post as it is so close to the theaters. I just wish the food was better. I ordered the salmon with rice pilaf and it came blackened which wasn't how it was described on the menu. I would not have ordered it if it was. The salmon has been overcooked and dry the last 2 times I ordered it. And I just don't understand the pickled carrots. They were inedible and seemed to be harder than raw carrots. These are things that would not take a lot to remedy that would really elevate the dining experience. Even the arugula garnish was limp and dry - it wasn't fresh at all. It was a disappointing evening.

The usual wonderful food from a limited menu. The Brussels sprouts and omelet are excellent. My only complaint: They should open at 11:00 or 11:30 to avoid the rush and allow for a more leisurely brunch.
