I had planned this lovely dinner at the Henderson for a Christmas present to my children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, it has become a memory of a bad experience.
To start off with, we thought this was going to be a Buffet like the Thanksgiving meal at the Henderson. We absolutely loved that! And would probably come again for that. But this was a set menu. And if we had been informed of that we probably wouldn’t have come.
Our party of 9 was seated in a lovely room. But things started to go downhill after that.
Our waiter took our drink orders of water, 4diet Cokes, and a Sprite. After he delivered them we had to wait a while to have our orders taken. And it continued that way the entire evening. The dinner was supposed to be from 5:15 to 6:45 and we were there till after 7:30 PM!
As I walked out into the restaurant a couple times I noticed that it was not very busy at all. So I couldn’t understand why we were having to wait so long between courses.
The other thing that was really disconcerting was, that without exception, we had to move our dishes out of the way for each new course because the dishes were not removed by the wait staff. That doesn’t even happen at Ruby Tuesday. So I was shocked to have to move my appetizer plate in order to receive my main course, and on and on it went.
The other complaint we had was that the food was barely warm in most cases and cold in others.
This gift/meal cost me over $1000 for eight adults and one three year-old. So I was absolutely shocked when I received a bill for $42 at the end of the meal. It was for the 4 diet Cokes, the sprite and a bowl of fruit that we got for the three year, who didn’t eat the kids meal that we ordered. I requested a grilled cheese sandwich in place of it and they couldn’t even accommodate that.
For a restaurant/hotel that is touted as the best in the area, I was shocked that they had such bad service, cold food, and were so miserly regarding soda pop!
We will not be back to the Primrose.
