At Quetzal, we celebrate regional Mexican cuisine, inspired by traditional flavours and cooking styles, all cooked over a 28 foot-long open fire that runs the span of the hot line.  Traditional moles, sauces and little-known native ingredients are transported to Toronto and infused with the bounty of local Ontario and Canadian produce, for a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Quetzal is located at the corner of College & Bathurst, at the edges of four Toronto hotspot neighbourhoods: Little Italy, Kensington Market, Harbord Village, and the Annex.

From the OpenTable editors: Fire-kissed flavours from a wood-burning grill and lesser-seen Mexican dishes that go beyond tacos and tostadas earned Quetzal a MICHELIN star. A creative cocktail menu centred on tequila and mezcal, plus a curvy, eye-catching ceiling that channels a Mexican market, complete the restaurant’s ultra-cool vibe.

Our party overall had a positive experience. 5/5 food. The food is definitely worth the hype. The Australian wagyu and Al Pastor were perfect. 5/5 ambiance. Clean and unique arrangement with an open view of the chefs. It was a bit loud, but not so much that I had to shout across the table. 4/5 service. Our servers were attentive, but the last employee who took my payment was a bit short with his words and demeanor which made us feel rushed, like he wanted us out quickly. I would understand if we were the last people preventing closing, but there were still multiple tables enjoying their night. Soured the experience a bit, but overall will still give 4.5/5 stars.

Terrible experience. Definitely not worth the money or the Michelin star - this restaurant put my faith in the guide on a doubtful situation. There is no “ambience” at all. Extremely noisy, couldn’t even hear the waiter or their explanation on the dishes (we had the 135$pp curated menu, so it was pretty fundamental to be able to understand what was being brought to the table). The staff isn’t properly trained - all kind of clumsy, dropping forks and knives, little splashes/drops of drinks on clothing, phones. The intense smoke coming out of the woven smoked everyone and everything in the room - and by reading on others comments on the restaurant, it turns out that this is a common thing there. They should warn you upfront because you and your clothes will be smoked after dinner. The food was at best OK. Absolutely nothing special. The best of the 5 course meal, and the only that actually had something extraordinary, bringing that “wow” from us was the salad - that should give you a hint. The “main course” (pork, mushrooms and fish) was a really bad surprise. Pork was dry and overcooked. The fish wasn’t either raw or properly cooked, but instead somewhere in between and not tasteful at all. And the mushrooms were clearly undercooked, having it’s sauce being the best part of it. I would definitely rather spend my $500 somewhere else.

The food was absolutely fantastic. It was beyond our expectations. We had the curated menu and they were able to accommodate our dietary restrictions which was so appreciated. The curated menu is worth the higher price tag as you get to try a few of the culinary masterpieces that their chef creates with an element surprise. The service was also great. It is a bit loud but only because people are having a good time. :)
