   Had a lovely lunch at the Red Lion. The food was delicious, cooked perfectly and well presented. Warm and inviting atmosphere with friendly service from the whole team. Good location, just outside the city centre, with sufficient parking. Will be back again for sure!

   Had a late Sunday lunch, very busy, very noisy the roast chicken was substituted with turkey, this was very dry and the trimmings were average. My wife had the burger which was great, so I made a poor menu choice I guess. The restaurant is a busy noisy environment which I didn’t particularly enjoy. Service was great,polite and friendly.

   Excellent curry, friendly staff, slightly slow service, but we weren’t in a hurry so it didn’t manage, we were able to have our table for as long as we wanted, catching up with friends.

   Very welcoming and very tolerant of party staying on! Menu was varied enough to cater for all tastes and the actual food did not disappoint!

   I ate at the Red Lion with my son.and daughter in law on.Sunday January 26 th at 12.15. We were warmly welcomed and quickly served. My son had the roast porchetta with vegetables and Yorkshire pudding which e enjoyed. My daughter in law and I had 2 starters good leek.and potato soup and tasty trout pate..We enjoyed the wholesome food.

   Been here before in summer so hoped today would be same. Embarrassingly not. Brought in a friend visiting Cambridge from overseas. Asked pie of the day. Answer: it's chicken but we don't have any left. Asked if one guest could order the Robbie Burns fixed prix menu but the rest of guests order off the standard (overpriced) menu and told no everyone had to order off either one or the other. The whole table not just one person. Ridiculous concept and never properly or convincingly explained by server and front of house. Who on Earth would come up with a ludicrous idea like that where kids are made to haggis because one adult wants that RB menu??? Had random levels of noise pollution in the form of a very loud bag piper which I ordinarily love- in Scotland outside! A most surely server who we had to joke with to break the icy service. Genuinely thought we had stepped into either a Monty Python (cheese shop) or a Seinfeld one (No soup for you)! Food we did manage to get was third rate and service sub par. Will never take guests travelling to Cambridge to sample what was supposed to be a quaint, quintessentially thatched roof cottage with a local hospitable feel pub ever. We won't go back either ourselves.

   Lovely lunch, fantastic front of house staff. Kitchen service was however a little slow (accepted as it was a busy Sunday lunch). We ordered Roast beef and Roast pork arrived by mistake, leading to 10 minute delay for my Mum left waiting for the right meal to arrive while the rest of us ate before our lunch went cold. Not the best experience for her birthday. Also roast lamb was missing mint sauce and Yorkshire puddings were very dry / cold and needed a good soak in the gravy. Left a little disappointed, but felt for the staff who looked after us so well and tried to resolve the short comings.

   Freezing cold, poor service, if you'd prefer to be able to still feel your legs and feet by the end of the meal then this isn't for you! No heating on throughout, a log burner which only warmed if you were sitting right in front of it. I booked 'table in cosy corner of main restaurant away from main doors' as my mum is 89 and really feels the cold. When we arrived we were told that despite that there weren't any tables left in the restaurant and instead were given the 'only available table' in the freezing bay window to the right of the main doors! There wasn't any heating, there was part of the main restaurant to our right which the staff actually admitted they'd closed off as it was 'really cold in there' (although it was open to our section)!! After about 10 mins I had to go and ask for menus, ('sorry I thought my colleague would have given them to you'). They'd wiped our table but left the cleaning spray bottle and j-cloth on it (nice touch)! None of them noticed it so eventually I moved it. It was a 6.30pm Sat eve booking and they'd run out of the chicken kyiv main which 2 of us wanted and which was the main reason I thought we'd stupidly give The Red Lion a 2nd chance; having had an awful experience there about a year ago!! Service was very slow, it was 7pm by the time we actually got to order. The general feel was of a badly run place where no-one really knew quite what was going on. Mum ordered a starter (pumpkin ravioli with chestnuts) as she wanted a pudding, it was very bland so she didn't eat much of it. We had fish and chips which were good, very nice chips - that was the highlight of the evening! We waited for a while once we'd finished the mains, no-one came to clear the plates or check if we wanted deserts and we were getting so cold by then, (mum had eaten with her coat on), that we scraped the idea of desert and just left. a 12.5% service charge included in the bill was taking the mickey!

    Table booked for 1:30. My grandparents arrived earlier than we did and had already sat down. They were not approached on sitting asking about drinks. After my family arrived, we were asked for drinks about 10/20 mins later. 45 mins later we receive the drinks with one missing. We ask one of the waitresses to get us another one but never did. Someone from our party had to go up to the bar. This where they tell us that they were having problems with the drink dispenser. The food was good. Nothing more on that. Asked for the deserts, not a massive range of so we just had the main and left. Was difficult to flag down someone to pay for the meal. Not so brilliant experience as we were hoping.
