For the finest in Cumbrian Lake District dining, this beautiful restaurant in Waterwillock comes complete with 22 acres of gardens, a helipad and private access to the shores of Ullswater. In other words, this 200 year old retreat is the James Bond of country house hotels, and therefore a popular choice for weddings and private parties. The acclaimed Regency Restaurant is just another reason why Leeming House is such a desirable destination. The dining room – decorated with plush carpets, garden-fresh roses and theatrical drapes – enjoys panoramic views of the gardens and lake, and the modern British menu includes favourites such as the pan-fried coley with crushed potatoes, and the glazed lemongrass tart.

Unfortunately even though I had prepaid for the meal with the hotel accommodation I did not get to to experience hardly any food because they had a power cut as soon as they served the starter & could not serve us anything apart from a cold sandwich which I understood given the circumstances. The annoying thing was was though is that we was asked if we would like to wait for the power to come back on (which was 1hr) to continue with the rest of the meal & we said yes we would wait & then when the power came on the chef said he could not cook anything as it would take to long, so that is when we were offered a sandwich.

We came to the restrautant for ‘Afternoon Tea’. & was treated to a table that had the most stunning view of Lake Ullswater & the surrounding hills, the service was attentive which was lovely. Unfortunately the Afternoon Tea did not live up to it the magnificent of its surroundings. Although tea was plentiful we were not given a choice of tea eg.Earl Grey, Assam etc… The balance of savouries to sweet was not good & did not have enough variety. But the absolute downfall was that none of the cakes were freshly made & had just come straight out of a packet. There was a scone which they said had been baked but unfortunately was so large did not really go well with ‘Afternoon Tea’, the jam to go on this was also not of a good quality. Very disappointing!

Quiet and elegant dining room overlooking the hotel's extensive gardens, with views down to the lake. The menu is traditional British. All the dishes were very nicely presented and the food was to a high standard. An unusual addition to the table was a small freshly baked loaf, cut into four and served hot in a small pot. Delicious with the olive oil and balsamic dip that is served with it. There is a an extensive wine lost to compliment the meal. It was an enjoyable experience!

Ate there twice during our stay. Thought the menu choice not wide enough, had 2 poor, one average and one good meal but over riding memory is the food and wine is ridiculously over priced.

Very pleasant meal. Having had a long drive it was good to know that we had a table booked and could just relax. Very pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was lovely and warm bread to start was really nice. Overall an enjoyable meal.

We had a main meal included in our stay, but absolutely would not have paid £65 for it. Have had much nicer food for way less money elsewhere; however, breakfast was good generally. Didn’t try the lounge menu so can’t comment. Staff were nice and welcoming. If we go back, wouldn’t choose to eat there but a nice place to stay.

Overall this was a pleasant experience if staying at the hotel, however I would not visit outside of this to eat here. The food was freshly prepared and tasty, however was overpriced for what it was; I would certainly not consider this fine dining (contrary to the imagery on the website). Whilst the restaurant boasts impressive views of Ullswater the hotel is looking tired and the overall ambiance was let down by a dreadful music mix of early 2000's hits that was blasted through the speakers on repeat (by the end of our stay we had listed to the whole lot about 4 times) and definitely eroded the premium feel the hotel was clearly aiming for. Staff were very friendly did a good job.

This hotel is extremely tired and is in need of a cosmetic upgrade. The food was bland and we didn’t feel it was good value for money.
