Established in 2002, London’s Royal India is one of the most popular restaurants on the busy, eatery-filled Stoke Newington Church Street. At this luxurious local restaurant guests are encouraged to sit back, relax and be pampered by the helpful and attentive staff, resulting in one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in the area. The sumptuous but not at all over-the-top surroundings combine colonial-esque wicker seating and swathes of scarlet red as paint accents, on tablecloths and on pretty silk wall hangings with the impression of space and light created by the large windows looking out on to the street. The Royal India kitchen specialises, of course, in the very best of traditional Indian food.

The food was very good, although the "medium" spicy dish that my husband ordered was actually extremely spicy. The chicken tikka masala was very nice. Be advised that all sides, including naan and rice, are not included with the main dish. The interior of the restaurant is in desperate need of updates and renovations.

Very average food. Despite telling our waiter that we were off to the theatre, our meal took ages. Indeed, when we arrived, he acted surprised and said we were early, that our reservation wasn't until 7.30 (it was clearly for 6.30). My dish was described as organic and local vegetables (there's a very good local organic farmers market) - yet it contained sweetcorn and peas which are not in season so couldn't be local.

Best value dinner for ages... Curry like we used to eat in the days when Brick Lane was not so trendy!

Really disappointing. I’ve enjoyed the food here before so took some friends who were visiting from abroad. The one waiter was friendly but unable to serve everyone. We waited 2 hours to be served main course. The restaurant looked shabby, with worn out chair covers. It was cold and the background music only played intermittently which made for a poor atmosphere. Won’t be returning unless management changes. Food was great when it finally came.

I have always loved the food here and have brought many people to try it and they have all returned afterwards. I think the food is fab and the service is friendly and efficient.

I have previously been to the royal india on a quiet Sunday afternoon - the food was delicious. But this time the staff just could not cope. The staff were very friendly but they needed more people on and just got flustered. Drinks took 20 minutes, and when they arrived all 5 beers were flat. It is a shame as the food is very good, but we had to leave at that point!

Poor food, poor service and although whilst cheap because of offers it it really not worth whatever money is charged here.

I booked dinner for 3 and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. The service was very slow and I felt the food wasn't good enough. I ordered a prawn dish, and it arrived with the tiniest little curly shrimps you've ever seen. Those were not prawns! thats not OK. Ordering drinks was a chore, and they just didn't seem very interested in running a restaurant. There are lots of lovely Indian restaurants nearby, I think we'll be voting with our feet. Not going back :-(
