Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent.


The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

    Best Italian food I have ever had in my entire life no joke. I had the rigatoni bolognese pasta it was excellent and my girlfriend went back the basics and got spaghetti and meatballs hers looked really good too and it was phenomenal as well. We were also served Prosecco with our dinner that was a delicious treat as well. When my girlfriend went to the bathroom I told our waiter I was planning on proposing and he helped me out the best he could by bringing us a free tiramisu and bring out more Prosecco with the dessert. After I proposed he then brought us out flowers and congratulated us. Just because I proposed there they compensated our whole entire meal that night. Which I thought was a very nice and sweet gesture of there appreciation.

    Had the PERFECT round table near the entrance. We could actually hear to talk. The food was absolutely fabulous. And we enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed for 3 hours. The staff was amazing. What a fantastic experience!

    We drove down from Waco for our anniversary and Sammie’s made is a very special night. Everything from the atmosphere, the staff, and the food were amazing. 10/10 We will be back.

    The food and service were outstanding. However, the noise level was so high, we could hardly even visit across our 4 person booth. The volume of the music did not help at all. It was also quite loud.

    I'm sorry to have to write this review. I really wanted to love it. We are from Chicago and Italian is our favorite cuisine. Unfortunately, Sammies did disappoint. Beginning with the bread basket..the olive bread is soaking in oil, does not come to the table warm and the bread sticks are store bought out of the box. My husband had the lasagna which is a very large portion but again, a disappointment in terms of taste. The Caesar Salad was dripping in dressing and was very spicy. In my husband's words "That's got a kick to it". My daughter had the Rigatoni with Vodka sauce and it was also swimming in sauce. This just isn't the Italian experience that we are used to. The kicker is the price tag...over $225 for 3 pasta dishes, a salad and 3 glasses of wine is not at all worth the price tag. On top of that the restaurant is small but everyone is packed in like sardines. And the valet is $12 additional. Had the food been exceptional, I would not take issue with the price tag or the cost of the valet.
