   It is very nice to find such an attractive place to eat in London after theatre and concerts. This is a live dining room with a great tradition with excellent service and very good food. A thoroughly enjoyable experience

   My wife, 18 year old son and I dined at the Savoy Grill because our son wanted to try Beef Wellington and we wanted an upscale experience. The Savoy Grill did not disappoint. We enjoyed a bottle of Chateauneuf du pape and sampled appetizers including the haddock soufflé, which was incredibly light. We each had the Beef Wellington, cooked to order. The crust was flaky and the sauce was not too salty. The pommes purée was creamy yet light. We finished our meal with the crepes flambé, prepared tableside. A bit of a spectacle, but a great finish to a great meal. The service was good but not great. We couldn’t tell if it had an assembly line feel… or that they were “too polished” from experience. Overall, a great London dining experience.

   Nice ambience, lots of space between the tables. Excellent attentive service. The Beef Wellington and artichoke risotto were excellent. Less good was the confit duck which was very small indeed, not crisp on the outside and dry inside. The sides were good, in particular the potato mash.My biggest gripe was the wine. The markups are egregious. For example a bottle of Lynch Bages 2009 is on the wine list at £1300 and can be bought from Berry Brothers at £110 plus VAT. Meanwhile the affordable single glasses are almost without exception poor wines with little of interest and zero expression of their terroir. If you go, choose the Beef Wellington and excellent tarte Tatin and don't bother with the wine.

    Always a treat and as expected the food and the service was exceptional. The staff were attentive and we were not rushed. My only critique is the wine list, there needs to be more affordable options for people that don’t necessarily appreciate or can afford fine wine but like good food. I picked a £90 bottle and was told I could not be served it as the system does not recognise it?! I was then recommended a similar wine, but this was £180 a bottle!! It’s not unreasonable to expect sub £100 bottles of wine to choose from and it can deter people from going for that special occasion and having a nice wine with their rather fantastic beef wellington!!
