I had never eaten here before. I took my wife out for her birthday. First off, the setting. On a warm sunny day, it’s lovely here. Most of the seating is outside and undercover of some kind. The outdoor areas are heath robinson built, using scaffolding, old wooden boards, polycarbonate roofing etc. Let’s call it rustic. It’s quite charming really and there are two large wood burners in each outdoor dining area for when it’s colder. The have an outdoor speaker system playing music. For me, it was a little too loud (and i love music). I just would have had it turned down a couple of notches. There is a take away serving hatch. When we first arrived there we bought two coffees to take down to the beach on our walk, before coming back to have lunch at 12.30. £8+ for two coffees…… i thought that was steep. The coffee was okay…. But only okay….. So we came back up at 12.30 after our walk. We were shown to a table by a lovely young woman (Lois i think). She is really good at customer service. Genuinely helpful and wanted us to enjoy ourselves. The food………. We ordered some bread - came lightly toasted with olive oil drizzled on it. It also came with olive oil and balsamic. We both really enjoyed that. We also had some whitebait and aioli, which was nice too. Main course. I had Fritto misto -£23. (fried portions of fish in a light batter). My wife had the fish finger sandwich -£14. Her sandwich was packed with fish, the roll was fresh and quite large. It was very good. My fritto was nice….but a little bland. It too came with aioli. My wife didn’t want a dessert but i had to try the tiramisu-£8 , which was very nice. Very rich and a decent portion. I also had a double espresso -£2.50. I couldn’t understand why a double espresso was £2.50 but two takeaway coffees were £8+….? We also drank two bottles of ginger beer and two cans of zero alcohol pale ale (which was really good) So the final bill for lunch was £99 and a few pence….. I’d recommend it.

We've been here a few times and found on this occasion, to be quite disappointed with the food. The menu did not cater for gluten free, which was limiting, but it was the battered seafood dish (naturally gluten free made with rice flour) which had us feeling rather queasy as it was so oily. Probably more of a starter option. The bill was £158 for two of us. Which is why I'm writing this review. To charge £14 for a burrata starter which had miniscule amounts of cheese and a few peach slices, is outrageous. The mains were upwards of £20 which is fine if the standard is there, but you had to order sides separately, with a simple tomato salad being £8. Even the burger at £22 didn't come with fries. And the seafood main we chose was heavy and bland. I don't mind spending the money if the food is very good and the chef has been generous with the main ingredient in a dish. We left disappointed which is such a shame as our server was lovely and really passionate about the wine and food. It's such a great location and has lovely wine, but the food standard and pricing needs reviewing to avoid it coming across as pretentious.

The food we ordered, (one reg breakfast, and one smoked salmon with scrambled egg) was good, nicely cooked, and generous portions. A little pricey, £42 for 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees only, no freshly squeezed juices or smoothies ordered, as none possible. Limited options available for those with dietary restrictions as quite a small kitchen. Not even gluten free bread available for those with intolerance rather than coeliac. Just a note - shared tables if eating inside, but the real sting was the £6.50 parking fee.

Don’t be put off by the shabby decor or the scaffolding; the service and particularly the food was exceptional and all produced by just one chef. First class burger, crab linguine and guinea fowl milanese. Very enjoyable. We will be back and we will recommend!

Really disappointed with such a lovely spot. The over priced ciabatta which is described in a luxurious way came with 2 bits of wafer thin ham, little bit of cheese and a kilo of rocket. Which took over an hour after being first to sit down and last to recieve. Really disappointed considering the price which I don’t mind paying if the quality was adequate. Even the pizzas lack a minimal amount cheese? You’re just paying for dough. -although tasty , you couldn’t help but feel ripped off, like Jesus, just put enough cheese on to cover the pizza, and maybe buy some quality bits of meet for the ciabattas? Felt ripped off , such a shame.

We arrived on time and had a choice of tables. We have eaten at Schoolhouse many times and they didn’t disappoint. The food from Will and Sam was awesome and the service from Lucy, Maisie but especially Penelope was second to none. Can’t wait to come back !! We would recommend it to all.
