Walk-in's always welcome! Screen Door is a restaurant that presents itself as a love letter to the American South and the revival of regional cooking. Each day, the restaurant receives natural, local organic meats and produce from nearby vendors. The inclusion of regional Pacific Northwest ingredients into a menu of dishes developed in the south has created a unique flavor profile in Screen Door's menu. Many of Screen Doors dishes draw their inspiration from Louisiana and the Cajun cooking that's found there. These include our world-famous fried chicken, Lowcountry shrimp and grits, smoked andouille chicken gumbo and fried okra. Other items, like the house-smoked beef brisket and braised pork shoulder, come straight from the state of Texas. The rest of the South is well represented as well with a Carolina pulled pork sandwich, chicken and waffles, crispy fried oysters and a pimiento cheese & sausage biscuit sandwich with a fried egg and cheddar grits.

Another fantastic dining experience at Screendoor. I had the chicken breast with sausage gravy and 2 fried eggs. Every dish I have purchased has been outstanding. I will be back again soon!

We have been there several times but tonight was not a good experience. They seemed understaffed. The bartender was waiting tables as well and it took 20 minutes to get a cocktail after placing the order. It took 40 minutes for our food to be given after we ordered. Was disappointed with the level of service although the staff were very pleasant.

This place is like a slightly elevated diner. It’s very loud, servers wear hoodies and look like they just sort of wandered in from running errands. The food is definitely not cooked to order & lacks originality and freshness. If you are catching a show, however, it is right next to the Armory and they have a theater prix fix menu at $28 for a starter & main.

One of our favorite places. Server was very nice, but service was very slow. We ordered the special pork chop, which didn't note any spice level but was surprisingly spicy - but delicious. I had to change meals with my adult daughter because it was too spicy for her. The chicken was amazing as always, as was the acorn squash and the smoked mushrooms. We still love this place, but the dinner menu seems to be less consistent than the brunch menu.

We wanted to eat here during me and my friends’ long weekend trip on Thanksgiving but it was fully booked (our fault for not booking in advance) but I really wanted to try it before we left and glad to have booked it the night prior leaving Portland. All I can say is that there is a reason that it was fully booked and that a lot of good reviews were because everything was amazing. The interior, the staff, the ambiance and the food were top notch. Please do get the chicken and waffles! It’s their signature and I tried it as recommended by our server since we wanted to try different dishes from the menu and we all loved it! The spices weren’t too overpowering and it was so tender, juicy and the crunch on that skin was everything! Would definitely recommend it when you go to Portland. I hope to try their desserts next time.
