The place was a little hard to find at first but once you stepped inside, it felt like a you stepped in a different world. Who would’ve known Just in between a coffee shop and an abandoned building could lie such a magnificent restaurant. The host greeted us very kindly and assisted us to our tables. The interior design was immaculate, very classy, yet upscale and elegant with their polished silverware and their plates. Now let’s talk about the food. We had the five course tasting menu and every single dish was amazing. Our cocktails had a very divine blend of nuttiness and fruitiness. Each dish made me want more of the next. The one that stood out to us the most had to be the pork belly dish. When people say that the meat melts in your mouth, I have never experienced that truly until this evening. To end our course, we had the banana dessert and it was truly a well balanced dish with the soy glaze and the amazing ice cream and the jam. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and we had a great time.

We were lucky to upgrade to experience the main dining 7 course set. Even those sides such as kimchi, dumplings are an art from Chef Edward Lee. The dessert is unique combining ice cream, permissions and crispy rice. My favorite is seared black grouper in the broth.

Was very excited to come try SHIA, but was not very happy with my experience. Food was alright, but did not enjoy some courses. Our favorite was the pork belly course. I wanted to look at the course menu for awhile but the website menu never loaded until the day of my reservation. The service was also a bit slower than expected. I feel like we waited at least five minutes after we finished a course for the next one to arrive. It did not feel like a typical course meal experience. At the end of the meal, the service charged my card to another table instead of ours. After an okay meal, this was disappointing since there were only about 8 tables inside and at least half were already empty at this point.

The seven course tasting menu is fantastic - the flavors are extremely inventive. It's one-of-a-kind in DC and a great value for the price. Some dishes rotate with the seasons and I look forward to seeing what the chef creates next!
