Sikwa is a remarkable experience. The food is unlike anything we’ve tasted before. The service is impeccable without being pretentious. If only the precolumbian diet included bread so we could sop up the delicious sauces.

A Culinary Gem in San José: Sikwa Nestled in the heart of San José, Sikwa is a true standout in Costa Rica's culinary scene. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, reflecting the genuine hospitality of the staff. The ambiance is relaxed yet romantic, making it perfect for a special occasion or a memorable night out. But it's the food that truly steals the show. The menu is a testament to the chef's creativity, showcasing innovative dishes that artfully blend local ingredients with global influences. Each plate is a masterpiece, not only in presentation but also in the explosion of flavors that dance across your palate. I had the pleasure of trying the Pejibaye ravioli, a true culinary gem. The pasta, made in-house to perfection, encased a flavorful filling and a sauce that enhanced every ingredient. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply seeking an unforgettable dining experience, Sikwa is an absolute must-visit. Prepare to be delighted by the culinary artistry, the impeccable service, and the overall magical ambiance.

I really wanted to like this place but the food was mediocre and given the price definitely not worth it. We had the shrimp tartar which didn’t really have too much flavor itself but thankfully the sauce made it slightly better. The ravioli we had was thick and didn’t have a great mouth feel, again the thyme butter helped the dish out a bit. We weren’t really given any explanation on anything about its aboriginal history/ influence just explained what the dish components were. This was one of the key factors for us coming. The biggest let downs were the mains : the steak literally looked like it was sliced by hacking at it and instead of medium rare we got rare, the bean and sauces just felt mushy and un memorable flavors. The shrimp was grilled and the sauce again was nice but on top of a bed of just corn. Just didn’t feel like a complete dish and the flavors were completely missing in addition to any texture complete (the main dishes just had mushy sides). The one saving grace was the drinks which were terrific.

Precios altos, porciones pequeñas y poca variedad de platillos, no consideran restricciones alimentarias. Sabroso pero no invita a volver.

Disappointing is an understatement. I ordered the beef main course medium rare, and it was blue/raw. I sent it back saying i ordered it medium rare, and it came back to my table a minute later with not much difference. I also watched a cook taste something cooking in a pan, and then use the same spoon to stir the pan! I honestly can't see how this is the top restaurant in Costa Rica. It was truly a dismal experience.

Sikwa was a great experience! The food was incredible. Inventive and local without seeming fussy or pretentious. Our server explained what everything was and how it was prepared. It was pretty quiet when we arrived but by 8:00 it was packed with mostly locals and a couple of tourists. Service available in excellent English and Spanish. Try it. You wont be disappointed.

Big downgrade after the renovation. Was excited to try the new menu, but left completely disappointed. The innovation and flavors of the old sikwa are gone. Everything tasted and looked bland this time. Hope they pick it up and return it to what it used to be
