In February 2022, the renowned British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, and project architect India Mahdavi transformed the Gallery with a new installation of artworks and interiors. Shonibare’s artist-conceived vision presented a new sunshine-yellow setting designed by Mahdavi, marking a new culture-defining chapter for sketch in its 20th year. Using applique and embroidery techniques on richly dyed fabrics, Shonibare illuminates the influence of African traditions on European conceptions of our modern-day world.

    From 1 May to 1 June 2025, sketch will transform its grand neoclassical spaces into a blooming homage to one of England’s best loved authors, Jane Austen. The illustrious London venue has invited some of the most sought-after floral designers to dive into the world and mind of this treasured writer, who brought us such unforgettable stories as Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma and Mansfield Park. This exhibition pays fitting tribute to Austen, who was famously a great lover of the outdoors and, of course, the quintessential English countryside. During this period, we will be exclusively serving our sketch in Bloom afternoon tea priced from £115 per person, including a glass of Pommery Brut Royal Champagne or French Bloom non-alcoholic sparkling wine.

    “A sketch afternoon tea it was, Seasons on, the French chefs at 9 Conduit St have continued to tweak, twist and adapt traditional recipes... An afternoon tea re-imagined... Now a sketch tradition...” Prepared and served fresh daily, the menu faithfully follows the traditional combination of sweet and savoury—too many sweets for the French ... not enough sweets for the British. The heart of Afternoon Tea does not change. Specialities such as smoked salmon, éclairs and the Battenberg cake are sacred and will always feature. The patisserie remains the same, but the fruits change to reflect the seasons. Add French marshmallows and an Opera and marry them with a choice of rich Oolong tea to create a more complex blend, making the perfect setting for an afternoon at sketch.

The tea selection and food were superb, with great service. We had an enjoyable birthday celebration, and my daughter was given a teddy bear.
