Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Smith & Wollensky in New York is a classic steakhouse that consistently delivers "fantastic" food and "top-notch" service. Guests rave about the perfectly cooked steaks, particularly the porterhouse and Cajun ribeye, and laud the attentive staff who often make special occasions memorable. The "wonderful vibe" and "old New York style ambience" make it a must-visit for steak lovers. However, the noise level can be high, and some diners have experienced service inconsistencies. Overall, it's a favorite for both locals and visitors seeking a quintessential NYC dining experience.

I had a bad experience when I checked in. Had booked a table of 4 at 815pm but the receptionist couldn’t find it apparently and was not listening to me as I told her my name . As we waited, she told me I had no reservation, and she only believed me when I showed her my phone. Very rude. Don’t take your customers for granted .

It used to be so much better the last time I was here, granted that was many years ago. Steaks came up luke warm; service was slow, had issues getting the attention of the waiters

The server was good !! The lobster was mush like jello !! The prime rib was raw inside and they poured hot au jus on it to cook it. Potato was brought after we finished the meal. Lobster was sent back and no charge. They sent us cake to make up for the lobster. Really I do not need a free cake. Just wanted a nice dinner out. Really a BIG let down. Had a great dinner at S/W in London two weeks ago. Hoping for the same yesterday.

I have been here multiple times the food is excellent but the bread was ice cold. The service was subpar. There was too much noise and we were left without water most of the meal.

A NYC classic! We had a party of 7 for dinner and the food and service were outstanding. We started with oysters, clam chowder, the wedge salad and all of us enjoyed steak for our entrees - filet, rib steak, bone in ribeye. We shared creamed spinach, hash browns and onion rings. The servings were generous so everyone will enjoy leftover steak for breakfast! A favorite of ours!

A bit disappointed on this visit. We were seated next to a window and there was a really cold draft coming from it. No big deal as they moved us. The most disappointing part of the evening was the service. Our waiter was just bad. Bad communication and seemed totally disinterested in being there. The final issue was the broccoli was not even cooked. Too many good places to eat in NYC to go back.
