   Top to bottom one of the best fine dining experiences we’ve had in a while. We opted for the a la carte seating at the bar and it’s debatably the best seat in the house (5 of their total 31 seats). The Toyosu fish of the day to start was divine and a great lead to the rest of the meal. We placed the entire order at the beginning and they coursed it out for us as great pairings of 2 or so items. The explanation that came as each dish (and cocktail) was presented was very informative and curated, and added that extra level of hospitality that goes beyond just “food service.” We were able to chat with the Chef as he worked on what felt like 100 plates without losing focus, and the communication and efficiency between the entire staff was on full display!

   We loved our experience! We had high expectations for this restaurant, and all were exceeded and more! We opted for the 6 course menu (visited in februrary) and even though one in our party doesn't eat fish, everything was delicious and they accommodated us. The first course was everything you want in a bite and more (I am not giving more details as to not ruin the surprise for you) and everything after that was great! We also enjoyed the cocktails and the kind and thoughtful staff interactions. The ambiance was calm and warming too!

   I surprised my partner with an anniversary and birthday dinner with Smoke Door’s 10 course menu with their reserve pairing. Not only did the food blow our minds, but the service was absolutely outstanding. They made it truly unique for us, and made us feel so incredibly special; we forgot we were at a restaurant, at some point, because everything else faded away. The food was familiar, but just different or “enhanced” enough that you will be thankful they invited you a little out of your comfort zone. It’s expensive — but it should be. You get what you paid for. The knowledge that came with every dish and paired drink was incredible; this has become our new tradition of celebrating life events. We cannot wait to go back. If you’re thinking about it, just book the reservation. The only thing you’ll regret is not doing so sooner.

   Smoke Door is the most expensive meal I’ve enjoyed in Tahoe but well worth the splurge! I highly recommend the 6 course tasting menu and start with one of their signature cocktails. Each course is so carefully prepared with the very best ingredients and includes a unique and delicious twist from the Chef. The staff is friendly and not pretentious. Thank you for an exceptional meal. We will be back!!

   We went to Smoke Door om a Friday evening and the restaurant was almost full. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and we were anticipating a wonderful meal. we were not disappointed. We had the ten course taste menu with the beverage pairing and it was all fantastic. there are other reviews that break down each course in detail so no need to repeat. Hurry and go now. The quality and expertise is evident in every bite and sip. we had an experience. Not simply a meal. This place is a local treasure.

   We had an amazing experience at the Smoke Door. I took my wife there for her birthday and they called ahead of the reservation to ensure they knew her name, and had a personalized birthday card waiting for her. We sat at the bar and ordered from the a la carte menu. Every dish was delicious. The service was fantastic. We will absolutely be returning and I highly recommend experiencing this restaurant.

   Everything was spectacular. From the moment you walk through the door. Calm and beautiful. The food was exquisite, service was of Michelin star level. The sake menu was two pages long. Only 26 seats. The noise level was high but the food made up for everything

    I'd heard that this was the best restaurant in Tahoe so decided to surprise my wife with a dinner there. We chose the 6 course tasting menu and split a wine pairing (which had several sakes and a cocktail as well). The food was fantastic and the courses were spaced out well to create a great dinner event. We loved our server, Sebastian, and the manager, Zack. It's a really great experience for a night up in the mountains.
