Nestled on Central Street in Downtown Highland Park is Tamales Mexican Restaurant. Tamales is famous for having some of the best Mexican Food and Margaritas on the North Shore. The ingredients are always fresh, well prepared and presented in unique ways.

The atmosphere is relaxed, casual, and both couple and family friendly. Our staff will go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure your dining experience is just right.

We are located within walking distance to the Highland Park movie theatre, Ravinia shuttle and Highland Park Train Station.

Food was very good but pricey for Mexican. Drinks were average not strong enough. Service was good. Disappointing to be charged premium prices and have al a carte price on top for sides and extra tortillas. Probably won’t be back.

Staff is incredible. Very personable and accommodating. The bartender, Noah goes above and beyond to make you the perfect drink.

Way too expensive but mostly we didn’t care for any of the food. We will not be returning

The crispy duck tacos are what keeps bringing us back. The pumpkin and mushroom tamales are both good choices too.

The food was fresh and fantastic!! There were the usual on the menu - chicken, beef, pork, fish. There were also duck tacos, which were awesome. I will definitely be returning.

Went on a Saturday night but was not too crowded. Great margaritas. Food was good not great. They do have the best key lime pie.

Food went slightly downhill. I think more ‘filler ‘ was used. Prices increased. But nice server.

Great dinner once again. My wife's chicken fajitas were excellent and I was more than happy with my shrimp and duck tacos. Huge portions and terrific value.
