Chef Teiichi Sakurai, well-known as the founder of Teppo (1995) and Tei Tei (1998), opened Tei-An in 2008 at One Arts Plaza. Chef Sakurai continues the pursuit of introducing authentic Japanese culinary culture to Dallas through ancient techniques and years of mastering the fragile and sophisticated soba noodle.
Called "The crown jewel of Japanese dining in Dallas" by former Dallas Morning News restaurant critic Leslie Brenner, Tei-An continues to induct diners into the art of dining at a traditional, yet modern, Japanese soba noodle house.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Teiichi Sakurai

From the OpenTable editors: Tokyo-born chef Teiichi Sakurai helped introduce Japanese food and culture to Dallas starting in the '90s before opening this celebrated soba house in 2008. The intimate omakase counter surrounds a rock garden at the center, creating a shrine-like, very-Tokyo atmosphere for wagyu, sashimi, and other traditional Japanese fare. One thing's for sure: every meal from this six-time James Beard semifinalist must end with soba.

It’s always been good night out here at Tei-an, all the food here is so phenomenal. If you understand the culture, you understand the value Tei-an has offered, especially here in Dallas

Overall it was a nice experience. Food was good and well priced. Didn’t fall off my chair from the flavors, wasn’t exciting. I also didn’t like that they were doing last call for the kitchen at 9:24 (on a Saturday night) when I just sat down at 9, practically rushed to order everything in advance.

Wife and I celebrated our anniversary and the food was top notch. We got the omakese experience and enjoyed every dish that was presented to us.

I purchased the Theatre fixed 1 hour meal for 2 because we had DSO tickets for 7:30. We arrived when they opened at 6:00. They confirmed after I ask about getting us out by 7:10 ish for the theatre. Meal service stsrted @ 6:25 and the main course was set on our table after I requested the check at 7:15. Not Good especially for a $285.00 price tag VERY DISAPPOINTING. We left the restaurant at 7:20 without touching the main course. We had a 6 minute walk to the show and were rushed to get seated as last call before doors were closing was happening as we arrived. If you can not get patrons in and out to make the show they are attending you should not offer a 1 hour pre-set Theatre Meal.

Delicious food presented beautifully by experienced and knowledgeable servers. Don’t miss the white seaweed salad and the Crispy Tei-An Shrimp with a potato chip crust.

We had the classic omakase containing 6 courses plus dessert. Only one was sashimi so be aware this is not a sushi centric experience if that’s what you’re looking for. That being said we enjoyed the dishes: white seaweed salad, grilled wagyu beef, fried oysters and sea bass, and of course soba noodles. Service took a sec to get going but once they started dinner moved briskly. Great ambience. Overall a worthwhile try for Japanese style cuisine not strictly focused on raw fish.

Tei-An deserves it's Michelin honorable mention. The food was great the service by David was excellent. Started with the mashed spinach and bone marrow and both were delightful, moved on to the fresh sushi from Japan and everything was super fresh and delicious. Next to the kinadae tempura and snapper collar, again delicious then to the ten don which is the best in town, no comparison. Had to end with the soba ice cream with black honey which is in a class of its own. Overall, one of the best meals I have had this year. Kudos to Teiichi Sakurai for keeping this restaurant at the top of the Dallas dining market for 15 years!
