Chef Teiichi Sakurai, well-known as the founder of Teppo (1995) and Tei Tei (1998), opened Tei-An in 2008 at One Arts Plaza. Chef Sakurai continues the pursuit of introducing authentic Japanese culinary culture to Dallas through ancient techniques and years of mastering the fragile and sophisticated soba noodle.
Called "The crown jewel of Japanese dining in Dallas" by former Dallas Morning News restaurant critic Leslie Brenner, Tei-An continues to induct diners into the art of dining at a traditional, yet modern, Japanese soba noodle house.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Teiichi Sakurai

From the OpenTable editors: Tokyo-born chef Teiichi Sakurai helped introduce Japanese food and culture to Dallas starting in the '90s before opening this celebrated soba house in 2008. The intimate omakase counter surrounds a rock garden at the center, creating a shrine-like, very-Tokyo atmosphere for wagyu, sashimi, and other traditional Japanese fare. One thing's for sure: every meal from this six-time James Beard semifinalist must end with soba.

I had high hopes for Tei An, and while the food itself was excellent, the overall experience left much to be desired. The evening began with a 30-minute delay for our reserved table. While we waited, the staff offered us drinks, which I initially thought was a nice gesture. However, when the bill arrived, I was shocked to see the $100 tab for those drinks added to the total. What seemed like a courtesy turned into an unwelcome surprise. Once seated, things didn’t improve. While the dishes, including the soba and tempura, were delicious, the service was another story. At one point, our server accidentally spilled tempura sauce, which leaked through the table crack and ran down my leg and into my shoes. I had to ask for a clean towel to wipe up the mess, as no one stepped in to assist properly. As we neared the end of the meal, the pace felt rushed. The server poured broth into the dipping sauce cups—which we had already used for our soba noodles—and encouraged us to drink it. This felt unnecessary and a bit unhygienic, leaving us uncomfortable. The worst part came when settling the bill. We had split the total among friends and added the full tip to one tab, not the other. Despite this, the server accused us of not tipping. Being questioned like this was embarrassing and unwarranted, especially since we had tipped appropriately. To top it all off, nothing was comped—not even for the spill or the delay. While the food at Tei An was wonderful, the poor service, mishandling of situations, and unexpected drink charge left us feeling undervalued as customers. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected much better. 2/5 stars.

This is definitely a hidden gem in Dallas!!! Food was so authentic and homemade soba was a hit! The grilled Unagi was also a must try! Quality was as high as what we had in Japan!

We had the pre concert tasting menu and there was no dessert course. Almost 300 for a tasting and no dessert and the main dish is a chicken yakisoba. It was also a special celebration so extremely disappointed that we spent over 600 dollars total and the kitchen team couldnt even include an ice cream in the tasting.

Had a wonderful dinner with my son last night! The standouts were baby yellowtail, Japanese snapper and the toro. We had all as sushi and each was the most delicate, flavorful, perfect bites! The tuna tartare with caviar was sublime and the beef on the rock was perfect- nice touch that they cook it for you.😉I also recommend the lychee martini-chef’s kiss!😘
