Thackeray’s is a restaurant in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. At Thackeray’s we offer a relaxed form of fine dining free from pretension, applying classic European culinary philosophies to modern dishes. We believe strongly in the importance of provenance, and for that reason use the highest quality local produce wherever possible. We believe in creativity, when applied with consistently high standards and exquisite attention to detail. And finally we endeavour to provide a warm atmosphere with friendly, attentive and knowledgeable service.
Our setting is fairly unique. The building, a former residence of author William Makepeace Thackeray, is more than 300 years old and is a virtual work of art itself. Odd angles, sloped ceilings and off-kilter stairways make it feel almost like something from a fantasy world. It sits just off London Road, among a cluster of traditional-style English villas, and overlooks the open grassy common.

A delightful Sunday Lunch! Interesting menu - good choices and interesting takes on traditional dishes. The beef was perfectly cooked, and the roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding were particularly tasty. Try the sorbets for dessert....

Thackeray's is my favourite restaurant in Kent. I love the relaxed feel of this place. Consistently excellent food. The scallops were fantastic and beautifully presented. The John Dory was finely balanced with excellent flavours. Service was well-timed and friendly. I definitely would return more often as I'm always greeted with a warm welcome. Highly recommended!

Very enjoyable visit - the best set lunch for a long while . Interesting menu , well presented and cooked . Staff helpful & knowledgeable . The Chilean wine was especially good - a Rousanne/Marsanne blend . Can you email me the name please? Piped music too loud but they turned it down to an acceptable level Many thanks Martin

Delicious food and wine. I could have done with some more information about paired wines, and the reasons for selecting them to go with specific dishes. Otherwise, a very memorable lunch – thank you.

Travelled from Cambridgeshire and although parking was difficult , the restaurant was absolutely amazing. From the initial warm greeting to the amazing food and outstanding service the whole experience was second to none. If you haven’t been give Thackeray’s a try , you won’t be disappointed
