A Traditional Derbyshire Inn
With A Five Counties View!

The Barrel Inn, a traditional Derbyshire country inn, dates back to 1597 and stands at the head of Bretton Clough, in the heart of the Peak District.

Being one of only five properties in this small hamlet, on a table of land some 1300 feet above sea level, The Barrel Inn proudly claims to be the highest pub in Derbyshire.

Its panoramic views of the majestic Hope Valley and the Peak District National Park are magnificent and on a clear day you are able to enjoy views over five counties.

The pub serves a fine selection of well kept real ales and delicious, freshly cooked, mostly locally sourced food, every day.

Old worldly charm - peaceful oak-beamed bar, real log fires, flagstone floors, studded doors in low doorways, beamed ceilings and polished copper and brass - have all been retained to enhance the overall charm and friendliness of the Inn.

The only reason I didn’t give full 5s is because the ambience was at lunchtime & it was quiet. To be honest though that suited me. Everything wa what I would expect in a Michelin star restaurant and this is a pub. Ideal location, wonderful views complemented by excellent food, drink & service👍

We go the Barrel often. Sunday lunch is amazing . However, last nights meal was poor. Not enough selection on starters nibbles brought 2 mins before mains so no time toceat nibbles and the main was just ok chips seemed not to be fresh. Waited ages for a coffee order .had to cancel this in the end as was getting picjed up. Poor birthday meal. Website menu needs updating to reflect actual menu offered. It wont put me off having Sunday lunch there but very disappointed.

Lovely food and good value too. Interesting variations. Fish and chips always a good staple. I had a beautiful tempura mushroom and brie burger and fries etc. Sea Bream and mussels also very good. Puddings all spot on. Have been a few times and always top notch.

We had visitors from Kent who enjoy good food and wanted a nice pub with fabulous views. The Barrel Inn ticks all the boxes. Thank you.
