About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Innovative
From day one, we have wanted this little restaurant to be a space where anyone can feel comfortable & welcomed. Classic French cuisine is the root of this ethos - consistent, familiar and even nostalgic flavours from the tried & true feel good classics, yet slightly elevated with a touch of whimsy. Whether you are up for a curated culinary experience with our 4 & 7 Course tasting menus (Fri & Sat evenings), or prefer to choose your own adventure with our 3-course Table D’hote menu (Wed & Thurs evenings), or are in search of an upscale lunch à la carte menu (Thur - Sat); we have you covered! Our menus are composed entirely to showcase the best local products in Lanark County & the Ottawa Valley and are tailored monthly to best celebrate the tastes of the season. What’s more is that we tie it all together with the best small town, friendly, warm and courteous service around. Just like at a good friend’s house; we look forward to welcoming you to our kitchen! Ian Carswell (Chef/Owner)

Service was very pleasant, the chef was nice. I can appreciate the different methods of cooking our courses however value for money maybe not. Very expensive for the portions you receive and not the best cuts ex leg of duck not a breast etc. Beet soup was tasty , fish cake (salmon, trout and salt cod mixed together), duck leg with tiny bits of parsnip and foam potatoes, and a small desert for 2. All courses were tasty and good. I had alcohol pairing my husband had water. Total 266.68 plus tip. Overall good experience. Glad I went but once a year maybe for my budget. Too little for too much.

Delicious food, excellent service and well worth the entry cost. The Lamb was cooked to perfection and extremely tender, we'll be making this a regular celebration spot

A Hidden Gem in Carleton Place! I absolutely love dining at Black Tartan Kitchen. The food is consistently exquisite fresh, flavorful, and clearly sourced from local farmers. Every dish is beautifully crafted and tastes like it was made with care. As someone with several food allergies, finding a restaurant that can accommodate my needs without compromising on quality is rare. The team at Black Tartan always goes above and beyond to create customized dishes that are both safe and absolutely delicious. This is, without a doubt, one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Highly recommended for anyone who values exceptional food, warm service, and thoughtful attention to dietary needs.

The food was absolutely spectacular! Refined and beautiful and yet everything was so tasty! We had the 7 course tasting menu and it was all fabulous! My husband can’t have dairy and they surpassed themselves even making him his own dairy free crème brûlée. All his substitutions were well thought out and tasted fantastic. We highly recommend!
