A Historical Coaching Inn with Traditional bar and a formal dining room; both with its own character.

We serve a great selection of pub classics, using as much produce from the nearby Ripley Castle Estate & Gardens as possible. Our chefs are constantly inspired to create special dishes to take advantage of the 2000 acre Estate and extensive Walled gardens produce.

We serve a selection of popular local real ales and have guest beers on a regular basis including some rare gems, so there is always a reason to pop into the bar.

There is a well structured and varied wine list suitable for all levels of wine drinker from affordable afternoon drinking through to more powerful and exquisite wines, which can be matched to our dishes to create a full dining experience.

We cater for any number of guests from couples to larger parties, families and dog friendly tables in the bar.

Please note we are unable to reserve tables outdoors.

A group of 5 of us had lunch here on a Saturday for a special family occasion. We ate in the bar area. We all had different mains and they were all beautiful. The beef and ale pie was rich with light and crisp pastry. One of our party said the burger was the best they’d ever had. We all had desserts too which were fabulous with special touches eg sherbet and crystallised ginger on the parfait. The staff were pleasant and the service excellent. A little more pricey than other pub food but definitely worth it.

As the bar was quite noisy, we were offered a quiet dining area. The staff were most attentive, the ambience most enjoyable, and the food was some of the best pub food we have been served.

Beautiful food, friendly staff, lovely place. We also stayed in the hotel which was great and breakfast was delicious. We are hoping to return.

Food was delicious and great value on the set menu. Service was very quick but restaurant was quiet as off season so not a lot of atmosphere.

Starter and sweet very small and tasteless sweet sauce cold as was in a cold jug compared to a couple of years ago when the meal was excellent this time very poor and expensive the pheasant was very hard to cut with the knife and the gravy was thick and congealed at the bottom of the jug. Only positive was the seasonable egg and fish pie. Also the onion rings were the worst ivevever had Been here many times but this showing not good

This was the second time for lunch. First was excellent midweek meal. The second was for a yummy Sunday Yorkshire roast lunch - the beef was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. The menu is varied and caters for all needs, young or old. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Would not hesitate in recommending The Boar's Head for a meal.
