Superb food and service. Just needed to move from speaker as music was irritating at times.

A lovely warm friendly pub with a unique undertone of “ that special something “ Food was delicious , staff were friendly amd the Ambience was one of the nicest pubs I’ve been too I would say it’s slightly above the average Sunday roast price but the quality of food and appeal makes it absolutely worth it We will return for sure

I was really impressed with everything about the Chequers. I am visiting the area and travel a lot but could easily bemy favourite place for Sunday lunch. It was my birthday so they brought me a glass of champagne on arrival which was clearly not prosecco. Our host, maitre de was beautifully dressed and groomed with a really debonair way about him. Friendly , fast and professional he seated us in the one free remaining table.Every seat was taken but it did not feel crowded, just atmospheric. Decor is as eclectic with lots of interesting artefacts and items of interest reflecting authentic country life. I had the rosst beef and the gravy-more of a jus ( if there is a difference it’s in refinemant) which was full of flavour, nice tecture-not too thick or watery and I suspect had a tad of red wine or port in it.If not I’d love to know how they did it! All the trimmings included the usual stars of the show-duck fat crispy roast potatoes and parsnips but also red cabbage;cauliflower cheese as well as everyday but beautifully cooked veg. The beef was perfect too; pink in the middle with a soft brown outer edge with just a small amount of fat. A bottle of French Pinot Noir went down very well. Thank you!

I am loathed to tell everyone because it will be harder to get a table next time! This is simply a great place for Sunday lunch at the end of a walk.

Food and our waiter was outstanding. However we did have to wait 25 for our first round of drinks.

Went for a valentines meal - a 3 course meal for £35. Oh my goodness, the food was divine! Have been to the chequers several times and this was the best meal I’ve ever had there. I had mussels for a starter - a huge portion and went for the Cornish Market fish for my main. It was sea bass with kale and samphire and the most delicious crunchy roast potatoes. It was in a lemon/cream sauce. It was amazing. Passion fruit cheesecake to finish. Also very good. Staff were very attentive. The front of house staff are a credit to the establishment. Great place and to see the pub bar area so busy with locals was fantastic when you see so many pubs closing down. Thoroughly recommend.
