The Commoner in Downtown Pittsburgh is open for business!

At our gastropub, we don’t distinguish between commoners and kings; we just want to feed the good people of Pittsburgh. In the restaurant, seasonal menus add a modern flair to classic comforts, complemented by a robust selection of local beers and craft spirits. It’s all served in an industrial-inspired setting in downtown Pittsburgh. Come and join us for an uncommonly good time.

Maitr’d was very kind and accommodating. Waiter was nice and helpful. An appetizer was brought to our table that had been made by mistake for us and we were asked if we wanted it since it ‘needed a home.’ I didn’t think we would be charged for it, but we were. Disappointing. Steak tartare was a bit underseasoned and bland. The ‘lost’ potatoes that were brought to us were actually scrumptious and outshone the steak tartare that we had in fact ordered. All of this was squeezed into a pre-theatre time slot, so the service was on point, apart from charging us for something we didn’t order. Bittersweet.

We really enjoyed our meal. The menu options are “high and tight”, and they executed on the ones we ordered really well. We had the crispy potato starter, the salmon and pork chop entrees, and the chocolate ganache and panna cotta desserts. Would recommend all, especially the crispy potato.

The menu isn't extremely long, but the food is creative and excellently prepared. We had a new version of their chicken dish and I had the burger which was off the menu. Both were excellent. We also had wedge salad and beef tartar, all worthwhile.

Had a great dinner at the Commoner, food and service were spot on. Friendly staff not only in restaurant but doormen and front desk were also friendly. Ate before show and food was out in a timely fashion. Great overall experience
