The pan fried salmon came with roast herb potatoes broccoli and hollandaise sauce. The fish and potatoes were very greasy, not drained of excess oil, the rest of the food was cold. Generally a little bland in flavour. The battered fish and chips also very greasy. The ambience was poor, bright spot lights, big draughty bare windows without curtains, the walls were bare and the room was cold. The service was fine.

Great value, especially with the winter warmer offer of cheaper second main meal for £1, and our waitress was lovely, and the setting and ambience was warm and hospitable. The food was sadly not up to scratch. My husband ordered the camembert for a starter, which was supposed to come with pickles and a bacon jam, but it came with neither, and the camembert wasn't heated enough, so much of it wasn't runny and wasn't really nice to eat. To the waitress' credit she said she would not charge us, and she didn't. I ordered the catch of the day for my main - sea bass - a favourite of mine. However, although the whole fish looked impressive on the plate when it arrived, it was extremely overcooked and very very dry. There was hardly any actual white fish meat as it was pretty much all just dried crispy skin and bone. The sauce was nice and was the only saving grace, and at least gave something tasty to eat with the peas, bacon and sautéed potatoes. So, having looked forward to enjoying a lovely meal out, I am sorry to say it was somewhat disappointing. Thankfully the winter warmer offer, along with not being charged for the undercooked camembert, meant that the overall cost wasn't extortionate for a meal we hadn't fully enjoyed. A shame, because the opening of the Fishmonger's Tavern was such a joy after the Dunstable Arms had become tired. I will need a lot of persuasion to go back again.

The fish and chips were really over cooked, despite us asking for the fish to be golden, not brown. Both the chips and fish batter were dark brown. The chips were inedible. We were asked if we wanted the chips to be replaced but looking around, others were the same. The sea bass was really good but it was sitting in sauce that looked more like soup. However, the service was superb and the refreshments were very good.
