The Gainsborough Brasserie offers a "wonderful asian fusion menu" with standout dishes like the Dancing Prawn starter. Patrons appreciate the "beautiful ambience" and attentive service, especially for special occasions. While some dishes may not reach five-star expectations, the lobster linguine and cocktails receive praise for their quality and presentation.

The most disappointing afternoon tea I have experienced to date. I booked for a “festive” afternoon tea for my mum and I, and requested for there not to be any butter or spread in the sandwiches due to allergies during my booking, I can confirm there was in fact butter in the sandwiches. Thankfully, the allergy isn’t severe but nevertheless, the fact this was ignored is incredibly dangerous. The afternoon tea itself wasn’t festive whatsoever it was the usual afternoon tea they offer. The menu displays that you also get “Warm Savoury” treats, that wasn’t the case as apparently the chef had changed the menu a week beforehand (this was what I was told by a member of staff). This would have been great to know as I solely booked this particular afternoon tea based on the menu being appealing. The food was very much average. The service was non existent, many occasions there wasn’t a member of staff around. I asked politely about why the afternoon tea was different to what I booked, but the member of staff I spoke to (I didn’t catch her name) with a raised voice and a huff, told me she’d check. However, when she returned she was in completely different mood. Smiley, apologetic and offered us a glass of Prosecco each because of the mix up. Well, this didn’t happen so I’m not sure why it was suggested, and even if I wanted it to there wasn’t anyone around to ask and I gave up trying to hunt anyone down. I will not be visiting the Gainsborough again, absolute waste of money!!!

Excellent starter, the signature Dancing Prawns which I would highly recommend; main courses were fine; limited wine list and service was polite but slow considering the restaurant was not busy. However there was no ambience and it did feel like dining in a hotel restaurant.

We booked a table in the restaurant as we assumed that staying in a 5 star hotel, the food would be of a good standard. It was not. The service was very slow and whilst our waitress was lovely, she was definitely over stretched. I had the prawns to start which were ok. No where near 5 star hotel standards though. My main which was supposed to be a lentil curry, was a watery vegetable curry with very little flavour. My husband had the chicken and felt it was a poor quality dish. Overall it was overpriced, lacking ambience and we wouldn’t return.

My wife and I stayed at the Gainsborough over the weekend of the 8th and 9th of November. The hotel, Spa and service were all excellent, however, the food in the Brasserie was really disappointing. We booked the Brasserie for the Friday night of our stay. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. We ordered the Dancing Prawns and Meat Skewers to start. Underwhelmed was an understatement. Both dishes missed the mark by some distance, the same can also be said for the main course , Chicken Randang. It was a real shame as the rest of our stay was excellent including wonderful Eggs Benedict for breakfast.

Malay-themed. We had three starters - Dancing Prawns and Chargrilled Satay Skewers. The Dancing Prawns were substantial portions and well done. However, my partner thought the Chargrilled Satay Skewers a bit heavy. For mains I had the Pappardelle Angus Ragu. This was another substantial dish, again perhaps a little heavy. Definitely substantial value for the big eater!

Below average afternoon tea - all the cakes tasted cheap and not home-made. The sandwiches were very bland. No tablecloth and a depressing dining room. Would not recommend at all.

Beautiful ambience. All staff extremely attentive and nothing was to much trouble. Food was incredible. Absolutely delicious. Thanks to all who looked after us on my partners birthday. Joseph was a true ambassador for the restaurant.

We arrived for an early supper on a Friday evening and it wasn’t yet busy enough to gauge a proper atmosphere but we were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed a very nice cocktail in the bar beforehand. The lobster linguine was superb and my husband enjoyed his surprise ‘birthday plate’ - nice touch! Perhaps a quiet mix of old jazz and soul songs in the background would enhance the whole experience, especially for early diners like us. Otherwise we thought it a very smart, clean and comfortable restaurant with a slick but gentle service.

Average afternoon tea with average service. Good enough but not overwhelmed by the service or the quality of the afternoon tea. Having said that, the scones were excellent.
