As a quick note to customers we would like to inform you that all of our reservable outdoor tables are under cover and have heating. Also standard seating is indoor seating.
Proprietor Nicholas Drillsma and partner Sandy Barton have built an enviable reputation over the past 28 years in producing the highest quality, locally sourced food, complimented by an extensive wine list.

    We arrived just after 12:30pm and waited quite a long time for our order to be taken and it took over an hour before we got our starters without any apology. We then got our mains about 2:15pm. The starters were not very good, two of us had the halloumi cakes, you wouldn't have know there were halloumi in them, it was edible but certainly wouldn't recommend it. The terrine was the other starter which was fine. The main courses were two calves liver which were tasty as was the pie, the burger was dry and overcooked. By the time we were offered desserts it was 2:45pm and from a full lunch service the pub was now empty and didn't feel we wanted to wait any more time for any more food so decided to leave. What upset us the most was that at no stage did either the two members of staff that served us apologise at all. We all work hard for money and at least want to be able to say it was worth spending a lot on a meal that was worth it.

    At the time of booking we were advised that we would have a two hour time slot which was acceptable. However, with twenty minutes of the time slot remaining we were advised that we would not be able to order the ONE dessert we requested . We were advised that alternatively we could have a hot drink (we were drinking beers!) but that with twenty minutes to go there was not time to serve the ONE dessert as they needed to clear the table. I pointed out that in the time we had spent discussing the matter they could have served the dessert and that our guest could have eaten! it! The pub then advised that at very short notice they had received a cancellation and that we could after all remain at our table. The bill then arrived and we were invited to leave a discretionary 12.5% tip. Usually we are happy to leave a tip but not on this occasion after the poor attitude of some of the staff members.

    Such a lovely winter country pub. Fab food- highly recommend their lovely pie. Perfect lunch with a friend.
